I just he would show a little more when he had a chance. Maybe he still has illusions of himself being a starter in the league and gets super nervous when he gets a chance?

I always thought he could be our next Pat Ryan.

This would be my preferred scenario too. Brunell has not played much at all in years and does not know our system or players. Ainge has been here for awhile but does not have any live time experience. They should give Ainge some extra playing time in the preseason games, maybe let him start the last one to see how he handles himself.

I don't care if the players like Clemens because he's a good guy or a class act... he sucks dick as a QB. Bring Brunell in please.

That's pretty athletic, being able to suck a dick and play qb must be tough.

Unless we get another starter if we need a backup we are fucked anyway. Might as well bring in someone to help Sanchez grow rather then Mark showing our current vets how to be better.

In terms of on field play, neither guy is gonna offer much and it's pretty much a lateral move from Clemens to Brunell. But at least Brunell can offer some veteran insight considering that he's 40 years old.

You must not have read the article. The players were saying they preferred having Clemens as the backup Qb, not their friend. So, the players disagree with you.

You probably know more than the players, though.

That's pretty funny because I am sure I remember players outrightly supporting Pennington when the Favre debacle went down... and weren't you one of the ones saying they were just paying lip service? :breakdance:

The Players are still pissed about what went down in the offseason regarding Faneca, TJ and Washington so its no surprise that they prefer to stick by Clemens over Brunell. Actually, I'm not sure Brunell can do much else than be a asst. QB coach in this case as his playing time has been next to zero over the last several seasons. I'm thinking the Brunell would be more of a addition by subtraction as the CS, despite their public claims, has no confidence in Clemens, Ainge or O'Connel and would rather have a known QB, albeit a ancient one, on the bench behind Sanchez.

Some players did support Chad. I don't recall the sort of unanimity that the OP's quote seems to be finding regarding Clemens.

I also didn't use the term lip service.

But the main point is one you missed, or perhaps are inadvertently referring to. I was responding to Jake who interpreted the discussion to concern players who liked Clemens as a person, that sort of thing, when the article clearly referred to them discussing his being the backup Qb. In fact some of the comments YOU refer to very much were about Chad being a nice guy and having loyalty to him as a person.

I would agree to some extent that all other things being equal, on a team as well as in work in general, people prefer to work with people they like.

But only up to a point, of course. For me it's when a nice enough person I work with screws up and I get blamed for it, or have to do his work for him while he gets paid for it.

THat's not what the players in the Clemens article were talking about, but I have no doubt the Chad comments you refer to were, in part, on the friend nice guy sort of subject.

KC will win that battle. It is not even needed. Players see more of KC and we do. I'll trust their judgment more than anyone on this board.

On the field, KC was able to win a game with a 9-7 team last year while Brunell lost a game with a SB Champs squad. On the field, KC is better than Brunell.

    OK, then let me rephrase.

I don't care if the players prefer a shitty ass QB like Clemens as the backup. He has shown when under center that he is terrible.... Bring in Brunell please.

Brunell is not better than Clemens.....or anybody else for that matter.....well, except maybe.....

Russell ? You have to be kidding....... Where the hell has he shown anything ? Even Brunell is better than this POS. All this guy wants is a meal check. He's fat, lazy, and not even a quality scout team QB.

    We don't need either one........

The reason to bring in Brunell is not to have him play. It's simply to mentor Sanchez, nothing more. If Sanchez goes down, that's it. The fact is, without MS at QB, whoever is in there isn't going to be allowed to do much more than hand the ball off until we can get him back in there.

Our playoff lives live and die with our starter, just like any other elite club. Clemens is simply everyone's friend, so of course they're going to pull for him to keep his job as full-time mascot.

While I agree that the playoffs live and die with our starter, for the other 16 games of the season I want the backup that gives us the best chance on the fied. Brunell isn't that man...want to bring him in as a mentor, fine make him the #3 or #4 or just make him a coach. But while KC may leave something to be desired on the field he gives us a better chance to win than does Brunell, and with our Defense we don't need a great QB most of the time.

That's cool. I prefer Ainge and O'Connell on the roster with Rich Gannon as an offensive assistant over either Clemens or Brunell as the backup.
