I agree. But I knew the CS liked Dixon too... oh well. At this point though I think we have too many inside guys. Would've rather kept Jay Richardson and only one between Aaitui and Harrison. But I guess Rex has other ideas If I had to guess I'd say Landolt. Maaaybe Bellore (9th LB) or Schilens (deep threat like Gates). I'd be surprised if it's Turner (5th WR but totally different game than Gates).
Richardson looked very good. Clearly outplayed some we kept. Supposedly the ~700K he was due to make was the issue. Doesn't seem like too much to me but we seem to have an upper class and lower class. If you are in the middle class we really squeeze the nickles out. Somebody has to pay for the Holmes, "Hunter", Scott, etc contracts....

Hope it's Schillens as I don't think he can stay healthy. Some guys just can't seem to ever stay on the field. He probably makes a decent amount as well. Is his salary guaranteed for the year if he was part of the original 53 or is that by the first game?
I remember Tanny on Hard Knocks thinking like this and I fucking hated it. All the should matter is the players hit on the salary cap. Richardson was getting vet min which is really cap friendly... but it pays out more than a young guy's contract. I'm 100% sure he wasn't kept because of a couple hundred thousand bucks, which is bullshit. Like it was bullshit to ask Slauson to take a 0.2 mill salary cut one year before having to discuss a long term contract with him. I hate this shit from Tanny the accountant.
Jenny Vrentas @JennyVrentas Dixon was due $540K. Heard some talk of financial "middle class" of players being in danger. Debate over keeping Conner ($540K) fits that. Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Jets saved $150K in base salary along the d-line by replacing Marcus Dixon with Isaako Aaitui #nyj Jesus christ I hope this isn't true. Can I please bring out some stereotypes regarding Tannenbaum's cultural heritage? So the discussion wasn't "who is the best player" but "where can I save 100k?
Is there any upside with Turner? He has decent hands but he's not fast and has not displayed any kind of red zone skill for his size. And he doesn't play special teams.
MAMBO9 you hit the nail on the head. Exactly why I get so annoyed today as Mr T's financial stupidity on full display. The problem is who he overpaid with a guaranteed contract. This is how he makes up for it.
He's been a reliable target for Sanchez. Kind of like an added TE. I agree he needs to get better in the red zone, but with Hill's and now Gate's questionable hands I want someone reliable to stay around.
Jenny V tweet....With Dixon waived, only 1 of 10 players Jets claimed off waivers Labor Day wknd from 2009-11 still with team: Patrick Turner So much over analysis. Even worse is what he does thru out the year with the Practice Squad. We'll have more guys on and off it then any team in the league.
if we bring in a new FB and replace Schilens on the roster all in all we could have done worse. Oh yeah, McBriar is still hanging out there.
I'm sure he didn't play them in his first year with the Dolphins... and when they cut him one of the excuses was that he was down on the depth chart and didn't even contribute on ST. With the Jets I'm pretty sure he's out there on STs...
Shocked at Dixon's release, but I think this shows what the Jets plans are for 2012 more than anything. Dixon's a solid 34 reserve E, but put him in a 43 or 46 front and he's a lot less valuable. Think this puts it in stone that the Jets primarily will be running four man fronts in 2012.
However who can play 43DE on our roster? Wilkerson, Coples, Pace, Thomas and MAybin on pass rushing downs?
