Exactly Johnny...the second down play would have been perfect. By third down..then you might be playing with a bit of fire. You needed one first down there. Whether you got it on first, second or third down...you have to get one first down there.
I hear you WW except the "protecting his new qb" line. This isnt about protecting him. I do agree, a pick or turnover of any kind in that situation would have been possibly...possibly...a season changer. Hey...a win is a win. My point is that if EM is a protege of BB...or Parcells...thats not the way his teachers would have played it no matter who was at qb.
If they were planning to run it at 3rd and 2...fine. Once they picked up the penalty and created the 3rd and long, you have to throw the ball there. Like I said, I won't really kill them until I see it become a pattern throughout the season. I am hoping Mangini is just trying to bring Brett along slowly and that's the reason for the conservative play calling. We shall see...
Good point and I happen to agree with you. I just hope it's not something we see 2 or 3 games in after Brett gets comfortable...then we know for sure it's just EM's coaching style and that would be a disaster with a team like they have now.
It wasn't exciting, but probably the right call given the position on the field, the time left and the score. If we had had a good punt and held their offense and eaten all that time off the clock no one would be complaining. The reality is that the defense didn't do its job.
Not to be an alarmist, but the offense had no first downs in the fourth quarter (0-3). Good teams (which most here have predicted the Jets to be) put away bad teams (which most here have predicted the Dophins to be). The heat - which many people have brought up - was the same for both teams.
Agree with that. If not for the Woody false start I feel we would have had the final first down. Still, things shook out ok for this game.
