Let's be fair. The first two series were great. They were backed up in their own end in the fourth quarter. Of course, if they had pressed things and turned over the ball and lost the game you'd be complaining about that! Geez.
Waaaaaaahhhhhhh we won on the rode in 125 degree whether against a divison rival with our entire playbook. WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You must be another Hermie fan. Backed up or not, the playfalling was brutal. You have Brett Favre as your QB. Not a scrub like Clemens. You leave the game in your QBs hand and TRUST him to make a smart decision. The playcalling handcuffed him. Even the one pass they called when they were backed up was a stupid swing pass that never works. We saw that time and time again the last few years yet that stupid play keeps getting called. We now have a future hall of famer as our QB and the playcalling has to be a little more favorable. I guess alot of you apologists have been so used to bad QBs we've had the last 5 years you are okay with this team playing conservative and calling plays like we have a defense like the SB Ravens a few years back. This team has the talent to win 11 games this year, but whether we do or not depends on injuries and the coaching staff getting their heads out of their asses. Mangini challenging the Favre fumble even when he had 3 minutes to look at it was inexcusable as well. It was obvious to pretty much everyone but him it was a fumble.
Brian called plays like he was Marty. This is the shit that loses games. Luckily we were against a QB that can't throw. This playing scared crap has to stop, and now.
I disagree about the playcalling in fact we didn't run enough in the second half. It was brutally hot and its game 1. Our D was putting a lot of pressure on Pennington and the D was running out of gas. You lose games by three and outing without running the clock down in the heat. Coles holds on to two passes this game is an outright blowout.
You should get your facts straight. I was never a Paul Hackett fan. Given the circumstances at the end of the gam the Jets played it correctly. You forget that they passed for almost 10 yards a completion so they were NOT conservative in their play calling.
The play that bugged me was the third and two when we threw the screen instead of just beating their ass on the LOS with a run between the tackles. Other than that not a lot to complain about.
I just dont understand why Jet fans on this site are making threads on this site like we lost the game! It's football time, we won against a rival Dolphins team and we are now 1-0 in the AFC East...Why make threads and complain? Thats my question. We have so many things to talk about, so many aspects of this Jets team to be pumped up about...I understand that fans may have a concern but why make all these crazy threads?
First of all, HIGH FIVES TO EVERYONE!!! F**K yeah!!! 1-0!!! The defense played great--fu**in Lowery and Revis!! Thomas!! Pace!! Way to go gents!! F**k you stupid ass Barton--not because you don't try but because you don't learn! How many times are you going to rough the passer in the 4th quarter? This time, it wasn't as critical as usual but you are a dumbass. Regarding the play-calling, Cakes, you are one of the most knowledgable fans I have ever f**kin seen and I agree with your quote below: Exactly right--Manginius played not to lose rather than win. One first down wins the game near the 2:00 minute mark! Take the chance!! Sutton, you did good today. Leon--You did great!! TJ--Right on!! Nugent: c ya! wouldn't wanna be ya!
^ to be fair to Barton, he couldn't stop his momentum on this one either. Only the Rivers hit in 2004 was a bad one.
Give me a run down of the last 2 drives buddy. Im not referring to the whole game. The first half play calling and first couple drives in the 2nd half we opened up. It was fun to watch. The last few drives are the same crap we saw with Hackett and Edwards.
The final run was the right call. Our defense had played well. There was 2 minutes left & the opposition needed a TD. The clock must run. We couldn't afford a turnover or an incomplete pass. By running the ball, we forced the Fish to burn their final timeout or get the ball back with 1:20 left. We all know full well that Chad can't throw far, and that it would take him a ton of time/plays to move the ball 60 yards for a score. If all they needed was a FG, then you throw it, because it would've been a piece of cake to get into FG range. With a noodle armed QB needing a TD though, you minimize the time he has to work with.
This is a point that a lot of people are overlooking. He and Favre have so little chemistry from limited practice time, it's very evident that they need more time.
People still have nightmares of games gone by when Herm and Hackett would try to put the other team to sleep with their "play not to lose" game plans..
Well, the Jets actually got the ball back with ~1:45 left in the game. And even "noodle-arm" got them well within range of the TD. And another thing to remember Ginn came damn close to breaking that punt return. If it wasn't for Wright's "shoestring" tackle the Dolphins would have been in Jet territory. Can't you trust a 16-year vet QB to just roll-out and throw the ball to one of a couple of receivers (perhaps one 6 yards deep and one 12-15 yards deep) and tell him to only throw the ball if the receiver is open? Even the Gunslinger should be able to keep the ball in his holster if it wasn't a 80-90% chance of a complete pass. Don't you think Favre was thinking to himself as the Dolphins were driving "... if Mangini had just trusted me to put this damn game away I wouldn't have to be sweating." I don't have any problem with the first two running plays, although I probably would have done some sort of play-action pass on second and 6. I also don't really have problem with running on 3rd and two. However, the third and seven play had about a 10% chance of being successful. That's not really good odds in my book.
