Haha, good point. I cannot speak on the NFL's intentions with this pink movement, just what the medical logic is behind it. As a resident physician I've already seen how high rates of breast cancer are, and it's extremely sad to see a completely preventable disease take the lives of all too many women. I've seen many families suffer from something that could have been as easily preventable as a husband telling his wife to get a mammo. Testicular cancer is pretty damn rare and not regularly screened. Prostate cancer is on the other end of the spectrum where it's so common, men are pretty much expected to have it by age 90. That being said, most of the prostate cancers that are found are post-mortem and don't have any significant adverse health consequences.
I doubt pink accessories are gonna get more women to watch football. You guys know that your sisters, moms, girlfriends, wives and daughters watch football with you every weekend LOL. Probably easier to get new fans that way than by wearing pink. Hey Abyzmal - be careful - you'll shoot your eye out!
Watch the commercials! Football is just as much about titties and beer as it is football! Thank God beer can't get cancer or we'd all be fucked.
Couldn't we just have the Dolphins wear pink? I found a pink Dolphins Bush jersey on google images but since I am such a noob the board won't let me link it. National Security, you know.
I personally find it far more offensive that a team with a 53 year history that has been wearing green and white unis for the past 51 of those years wears blue and gold throwbacks twice a year. I can deal with pink socks and gloves for 4 games, but butt ugly blue and gold uniforms that were worn for two seasons have no place on a Jets team IMO. I hate the throwbacks. I also hate the new "faded" green jerseys. That bothers me more than a little pink for a charity. At least the pink is for a cause. Who really cares if it is pink, orange, purple or whatever color socks and gloves are???? I am not sure why this bothers people. The NFL decided to support breast cancer. Why is that a problem?
And this is part of the problem. It's a simple, cheap, painless procedure, that in one sentence you made sound like a deviant act. Reasoning like that is why cancer is as prevalent as it is... early detection saves lives.
