Sounds like they might take a chance on Schottenheimer with the idea of helping themselves and hurting Mangini and the Jets at the same time.

Not sure it it will work but you have to give them credit for thinking strategically if they do this.

Well, the Capers thing means they will hire an offensive guy. It's Schott or Cam Cameron.

I'll go with you on that one.

On the bright side if Schottenheimer goes there will be no problem at all finding a good young offensive coordinator to replace him. Mangini and the Jets will be viewed as a fountain of potential head coaching opportunities for the right candidate in the near future.

It was brought up to ME. He's a possession receiver, which I need to use the stats for because people won't take my word for it.

Coles is pretty good.. which to me is average. #2 receiver on a good team.

We have no deep threat, and that hurts our offense.

Basically, not only does not having a deep threat hurt our offense, but with a weak arm like Pennington, you need match up problems where the receivers does the work rather than depending on pin point accuracy, velocity on the throws and what not.

A tall, lanky body like Sidney Rice or Dallas Baker is what this offense actually lacks besides a bruising RB and perhaps some beef on the right side of the OL.

The way our offense is right now, we won't beat a really aggressive D. They'll bump Cotchery/Coles not fearing anyone over the top, they'll have 8 in the box... If we had someone who could go downfield, I'd throw it up a couple times a game even if it didn't work ...

Hope we don't lose him. They'll probably hire Cameron. Maybe we'll get lucky and they hire Tim Lewis.

Dolphins are so sad. We will probably own them twice again next year. hahahahahahaha!

But Jason and Zach will still say they are the 'better team'. What a joke.

We don't have a deep threat because our QB can't throw it deep. I find it hard to believe that Coles/Cotchery/Smith/Dwight can't go deep, thats bullcrap, I know they could, but they have to have a QB to be able and throw it long. I'm not bashing Pennington because I think he's still effective to a strong degree.

In this case stats and your "word" are completely useless, because if you put a deep armed QB on this team, both would show the opposite to be the truth.

    Agreed.

"The Jets suck, but we want their coach."

"Pennington sucks, yet he beats us with regularity."

I guess it is a carry over from the players, who swear their team is better as they take yet another loss.

While I know Mangini likes OC's from the SD/KC lineage, he apparently was interested in Jeff Davidson (now OC of the Browns) and Pat Shurmur (Eagles QB coach) last year before hiring Schotty Jr. I have to say this about Mangini: he assembled a pretty good staff for a guy who apparently couldn't recruit a staff because of his youth. So I would trust his judgement whichever way he went.

All of that being said, I'd like to retain Schotty Jr. if possible.

And think, someone would BEG to work for him now.. Good team, coach who is into it, and his staff gets NOTICED.
