He was a HC, he's not a good HC, he's a good OC.

outside of dallas hes had 0 top 10 offenses as an OC. His best job as an OC came in San Diego and Washington but he was a HC, so i guess that disqualifies that.

He did great in Dallas, probably because he had great players. Not so great in Miami, San Diego in 2001, and SF in 2006.

^So what you're saying is you need good personnel to execute any gameplan? We don't have that.

Talent must be upgraded regardless of who is calling the plays.

he's averaged about 11 in pts and he's only spent 3 years w/ any offensive talent to work with. Is he a great OC? No, would he be a huge upgrade? yes.

No matter who the OC is we need to bring in talent. It would be nice to know you had a guy that knows what to do with talent calling the plays.

There is no magical offensive coordinator out there who is going to produce an effective offense without talent.

    With Dallas
    7th
    2nd
    2nd

    Since Dallas
    14th
    12th
    17th
    24th

His rep as a great OC is due to having a stacked team in Dallas.

I'd take any of those numbers over the current 30th ranked offense we have now. 24th ranked, and we'd have 9 wins (though, not in the playoffs).

again he isn't a great OC but he's a good to very good one.

    Dallas 1991 7th pts, 9th yds
    Dallas 1992 2nd pts, 4th yds
    Dallas 1993 2nd pts, 4th yds

after he left and all these guys were in their primes Dallas' O's were:

    '94: 2, 8
    '95: 3, 5
    '96: 25, 24

they never had years as good as they did w/ Norv.

It is VERY obvious we will not be getting Rivers... Even if we land Norm

The GM who steps in here shouldn't be focused on ANYTHING but the DRAFT!!!!!!!

After that see if we got some cap space to add a WR unless we add during the draft.

After that explore the trade options for a QB unless we add during the draft.

This Draft is HUGE for us!!! Everyone knows we need some fresh faces and an injection of cap friendly youth!!!

I find it hard to believe we are front runners for ANYONE considering we don't have any GM in place to be interviewing OCs...

um, those guys may have been in their prime in 94 and 95, they made it to the NFC championship game and lost to a stacked 49er team and then they won the superbowl. They were 2nd and 3rd as you noted in scoring...nothing wrong with that. 1996 they dropped off. Switzer had lost the team. They also were a top ranked offense for 5 years before collapsing.

This also happened with the chargers under norvs watch. He took over a top 5 offense in San Diego and just like in dallas, after 5 years they dropped and now they are 31st. One notch below the Jets. This is with a pro bowl caliber QB. A Hall of Fame TE who was healthy for the first time in years. 2 new WRs who were supposed to add versatility to the attack. Norv never adjusted to the Oline deficiencies and watched his QB get sacked a league high 49 times while he called 5 and 7 step drops.

You think he wouldve done better with an inferior QB, a below average RB and no WRs and a backup TE? doubtful.

I think it's obvious that Norv Turner would be the best OC the Jets have had in franchise history.

Why would Norv turner ever in a million years want to come here?

    1. Zero play makers on offense
    2. A Head Coach who basically called him a bad HC and if he had Norv's team he would have at least two rings. I think people underestimate how offensive that is to say to a HC.
    3. No QB (that's a real important one)
    4. No cap room
    5. Lame duck head coach, a new HC could come in next year and clean house.
    6. Terrible media relations

I can't think of one reason why Norv would want to come here.

A new HC could come in or he could be the next HC...If he is here and HC is an open spot you can bet your bottom dollar he'll be in the mix. Seems like a decent opportunity for a OC that has recently been a long standing HC. Also, if he is canned in a firestorm after this offseason he'll get another job in 2 seconds. Or if the offense produces he'll be a hero. Honestly, it seems like a win win.
