If this story had any legs i'm sure the media would have been all over it. I don't believe any of it.
That what we are here for, we all have our opinions. W/ Rivers he puts up nice #s, he doesn't win enough. SD was LOADED for a 4-5 year stretch and he won a total of 3 playoff games(the div rd in '07 SD won after Rivers got hurt and the backup led them to GW TD). Watch our playoff win at SD, his INT from his EZ changed that game. There are guys who put up good #s that can't execute in big spots, there are guys that put up mediocre #s and can execute in big spots. We have a guy that can win when surrounded w/ the right talent. If Rivers couldn't win w/ the talent he had in SD how could he win w/ what we had this year?
The Jets had a better defense (by far), o-line, running game and special teams unit in 2009. The chargers had a far superior QB and passing game. Yes, I think we could challenge NE for the division with a Rex defense and Rivers at QB throwing for 4000 yards and close to 30 TD's.
Definitely wouldn't mind if this was the route we took. Although I do think this is a typical Jets move of trying to go after established veterans instead of building through the draft. That being said Rivers is a very good option for 2013.
i get the sense that the jets are not a popular destination these days. and i can't blame anyone. maybe that's why they kept rex. they assumed no one else would want the job. only half-joking...
I'm not sure what you're talking about, all of these potential moves were real life scenarios that could've went through. Marshawn was traded for a 4th round and conditional 6th-5th pick. Your telling me his production hasn't merited this being an extremely valuable trade? I'm well aware of the situation. LT was old and everyone knew he was going to retire and Greene was what he still is, a straight ahead make you pay if you get in his way, no wiggle, no cut running back You must have forgot we went after Nnamdi, the whole time I said he's overpaid and Cro will want too much, go after Rogers. The 49ers got Rogers for like 2.something mil that year and we got Cro for nearly 4x that amount. Steve Smith had been stating publicly that wanted out of Carolina after the last game of the regular season. He changed his mind after they drafted Cam. Peyton in all truth probably wasn't a realistic posibility due to the structure of our organization (Rex being an out spoken loud mouth, Tanny just making poor executive decisions, our O-line woes). But the fact remains that people on here were putting him down like he was done and they wouldn't have him if he was interested. That's the part that's just beyond comprehension.
Jake Steinberg @Steiny31 Despite the fact the #Jets have yet to officially fire Tony Sparano, I'm told, per source, that they've already reached out to Norv Turner.
In their 11 game win streak in 2009 their D allowed an average of 16.7 PPG, their O scored 28.5 PPG. I our game the D allowed 17 pts(right near their average), the O scored 14 and 1 TD was basically in garbage time. He may have led to a few more wins and a few more losses, would he have led all those late game comebacks in 2010? maybe since he has done that in the reg season a few times but would it have been enought o beat NE? He couldn't beat NE at home in the playoffs, would he have been able to on the road? I doubt it. Philip Rivers is an insanely overrated QB and that was when he was supposedly a top QB.
you think Buf would have trdaed him w/in the division for the same compensation? and again we had LT playing well along w/ Greene. it's easy to look at things as they are now but remember back to the situation. We did go after Nnamdi who was considered the 2nd best corner in the game, we missed on him and got Cro who played like the best corner in the game this year. You know SF had to give him a new deal after 2011, right? Cro got 4yrs $32 mil, Rogers 4 years $31 mil. and Rogers signed for 1 year over $4 mil in 2011. awesome so he was never on the trade block or a FA. it's not that people didn't want Peyton, we would have had to gice up too much to get him and regardless that he made it through healthy it would have been a big risk. If money wasn't an object I'm sure more people would have wanted him. I want Tom Brady, I know it's not happening so why discuss it?
better in the reg season? better fantasy QB? sure but not better when it matters most and if we want to win in January then why would we want to downgrade? it's a upgrade in the reg season, downgrade in postseason. Folks complain about our title game apps, imagine what they would be syaing as we lost in the WC rd every year?
I don't think so, Jason Garrett REFUSES to give up the play-calling. This could get ugly. Jets should swoop in and steal Norv while we can. Need that new GM first though
I posted earlier in this thread about wanting Rivers over Sanchez any day of the week. But I absolutely will agree with the concerns some have brought up about his arm strength. In the game @ NYJ this year Rivers threw a deep ball over the center of the field which had absolutely no juice in it AND he had time to step into the throw. I thought to myself at that time, jeez, his arm sucks. Does he have dead arm like a pitcher in baseball? I don't know. Does he have a shoulder injury from getting slammed? I don't know. But what I do know is that he is a hell of a lot more accurate than Sanchez AND he can deliver the short passes. This offense (who knows what it will be w. a new coordinate) is not designed to throw deep 14 times a game. The QB just needs to be accurate on the sidelines and in the dump passes to lead the receiver. Rivers, if acquired at the right price, can absolutely do that. But I guess the discussion is, are there other QBs out there who can deliver the same at a cheaper price? That, I don't know. What I do know is that the list of FAs has no one on it I like, even for 1 year.
