I would be happy with him, another guy we might want to look at is Dimitri Patterson from the Eagles. Not the best fit, but who knows. 2010 Tackles 52, sackes 1, INTs 4
God, please no. Patterson is an absolute abortion in the secondary. We're better off with Joe McKnight at corner. I'd be OK with Buchanon as the nickel back I guess...but does anyone really feel confident going against teams like New England or Philly next year with a secondary of Revis - Wilson - Buchanon - Strickland? I mean, unless Wilson has taken major steps forward since January while nobody was looking, that would have to be our weakest unit in the last three years.
I'm not thrilled with Wilson as the # 2. I don't understand how others are. We've got a few more signing to make but we really should bring cromartie back. Yes, he was downright awful on third downs but he was serviceable. No way anyone should be ruling him out without knowing what his agent is looking for especially on length of contract. Please sign Cromartie. Please do not go into the season with Wilson starting opposite Revis. Holy shit, that thought makes me nervous.
1. There is no way that Wilson turns out to be worse than Lito Sheppard was opposite Revis two years ago. 2. We went to the AFCC with Lito Sheppard playing opposite Revis two years ago.
I don't buy that, lito was and has been in the NFL for years, we know Wilson's tenure. Either we are a win it now team or not, I don't really care but it appears we are. No way I'm rolling into the season with Wilson starting opposite Revis. I have no doubt he will some day and hopefully soon be that guy but until I hear or see otherwise, I'm looking for a qualified veteran as #2. To further that, I'm looking for a #2 that knows our system, not a #3/4 who had a rather mediocre year last year.
1) Unfortunately, it's entirely possible that Wilson turns out to be worse than Lito Sheppard was two years ago. The last time that any of us saw Kyle Wilson, he was brutal. Hopefully he's taken steps forward, but since nobody (including the coaching staff) has seen him play since January it's kind of hard to put a lot of faith in him. 2) Sure we made the championship game, but we also barely made the playoffs that season. And in case you forgot, our shitty secondary is what cost us a chance to play in the Super Bowl that year. If the Jets are serious about contending for a title, they can't run with a secondary of Revis -Wilson - Buchanon/Strickland (and lord knows who at FS.)
This kid has potential and it wont develop unless he gets thrown to the wolves. Im pretty sure this is what will happen with preseason. Either way there must be a vet in place to clean up the aftermath if things go bad. I dont know if a long term contract for Cromartie is the best option here unless we plan to move Kyle to a SS FS role. This in fact may be the best option if his tracking skills have not improved.
