im not giving up the #6 pick for rivers. or Brees. or any other player over 33 years old. We need that pick not only to help now, but to bridge the older team we kind of turned into overnight with the next generation of this team 2 years from now. We need to keep the 6 pick and we need to find a star or pro bowl type talent with it. I love Rivers, but no way i give up our first, even in a swap.
if we could deal him for those 2 i would in a second... but its more Rivers or Mariotta/cooper/fowler/white/etc...
Your completely overlooking the QB play that made those teams so talented. Your acting like Rivers teams win just as many games without him as they would with him.
i dont like tripling down on older guys for a 2 year window where we still wouldnt even be faovrites to win our division. you want to give me someone under 30 with that #6 pick im all ears. im not taking guys who might be out of the league in a few seasons
Seeing how this thread jumped from 5 pages to 10 pages in an instant, I should have guessed junc made a grand entrance to the topic. Looks like my fellow TurkJetFan is handling him pretty nicely.
arguing rivers skill/worth is so secondary to his age vs. giving up the #6 pick in a draft with at least 6 outstanding players. if you think giving up the #6 pick for a 33 year old is really where the argument should be at.
it depends who the QB is but you have to remember how weak the AFC West was and how talented the Chargers were around the QB. they were picked to go to the SB many of the years in the mid to late 00s and never got close. as someone once told me "junc=ratings". when nonsense is spewed I am here to help. He is "handling" me by offering up excuses for an overrated fantasy QB but that's what Jet fans want.
I understand your point. But I think the concern is that the Jets have spent a lot of money on guys who are right around 30 years old. What are we investing this money for with these guys if we dont have a QB who we can win and potentially win big with?
meanwhile we've had nothing but great QBs in that timeframe and as such should snub our nose at a QB like Rivers
Only jets fans would be opposed to a situation where at WORST the team is better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am not opposed to it at the right price, the #6 pick and signing him to a huge deal would not be the right price. I want to win in January. a move like this would not help that and it may prevent it by clogging up salary cap space to improve around the QB.
lol It really is incredible isn't it? You'd think we've had nothing but great QB's on this team and Rivers is a step down from what we normally have.
Wait. Hold on I thought rivers sucked and would do nothing for us. Now you aren't opposed at the right price? I'm officially confused. I'm sure a 4th for rivers is something San Diego would entertain.....we can then approach rivers for the vet minimum and cite games that occurred 6 years ago without taking the games themselves into account. I give up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not a huge fan of Rivers to be honest. I have a feeling if we get Rivers it will be the 2011 - 2012 version of Rivers. One that wasn't very good. Rather try and get Brees.
the fact that we hahve invested alot in guys 30 years old is the #1 reason NOT to turn the #6 pick from a 22 year old into a 32 year old. You dont go all in like that on older players unless you are a lock for the superbowl. we are nowhere near a lock for the superbowl. we arent even a lock for the playoffs with rivers or brees to be honest. and the risk is so much bigger on older QBs. one injury and then what? not even an injury to brees/rivers. but lets say revis or marshall and decker got hurt. that submarines our year and you have this older qb declining/getting closer to retirement. with a young player thats not the case. you protect yourself so much more and set yourself up for sustained success. if we were like some 11 win team coming off a conference championship game sure. but not a 4-12 team with a new coahc and ton of unknowns
Lol DUDE You're citing rivers hate by making broad stroke shaky statements from yesteryear. Meanwhile you'll be the first to in the same breath tell us our qbs hold us back, yet want to get picky wth guys like Philip rivers would would on a bad day make this team steps beyond its current level. I love the jets and their fans. But there are some who I will never get. I cannot add to this any further. Agree to disagree. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
