If he is being asked if there is a competition, isn't that the Coach's job to say so? Why it falls to Tim is beyond me. If you want him to say it, you might as well want Sanchez too as well. But hey, let's not nit pick though, right?
Watching Bart Scott on Sportscenter and he basically said Tebow is here to compete and push Sanchez, and that it's "put up or shut up time," (paraphrasing) for Mark.
Ahhh well yeah that's what every sane person on Earth figured when it was confirmed he was being brought in.
I beg to differ. You dont bring in a bad QB to push a mediocre QB. You bring in a good to great QB to do that. You will be very sad when you see how little they use Tebow this year.
this from a writer on ESPN. "Tired of reading about Tim Tebow? Well, this was your kind of day. The world's most famous backup quarterback, in limited reps, threw only four passes in team drills and ran a couple of fake punts on special teams. I guess there is life beyond Tebow. That will change tomorrow." Uh-oh. Tebow lovers... looks like your boy is pretty much entrenched as the #2 QB. Better get used to seeing him hold a clip board or blocking.
I pretty much said it was obvious that he wasn't brought in to take over anything, just to make Sanchez feel the heat. Stop trying to spin my words to make it look I am blindly supporting Tim, which I'm not. He does not.
ESPN is too stupid to realize that reporting/writing about not reporting/writing about Tebow still counts as reporting/writing about Tebow...
Time for the wildcat! / Terrible mistake why did they just sign Stanton and then trade for a QB? / Why Tebow instead of an actual QB? ^That is what every sane person on Earth figured when it was confirmed that Tebow was being brought in.
we agree on Scott's comments, here is more ... "What’s always been a weakness of the Wildcat formation is that Ronnie Brown couldn’t throw the ball,” Scott said of the Dolphins’ running back. “Pat White was too small to take the pounding. So now you got a guy that can take the pounding and has the ability to throw the ball.” cott also appreciates Tebow’s effect on the locker room. “How can you ever not accept somebody who has humility, works hard, who’s a great teammate,” Scott said. “I knew Tebow well before he came here. He showed me the respect to seek me out and asked me how could he be a better pro? I mean, guys don’t do that.”
Actually, a sane person probably figured that they brought Stanton in because he was the best #2 on the market, AT THE TIME, but then Tebow became available, giving you a legit #2 AND a Wildcat QB in the same package (saves a roster slot).
sure, but... Given the signing of Stanton it didn't make sense to go out and trade for a QB given the Jets' other needs at the time. Even if Drew Brees had been made available at a huge discount in exchange for a 7th round pick any sane person would've pointed to (at the time) RT, RB, OG, OLB, FS, SS, and WR as more pressing needs.
Dude, if Drew Brees was available for a 7th round pick, at least 25 teams in the NFL would have been trying to get him, regardless of what other holes they had on their team. To say otherwise is laughable. As for Tebow, he came at the cost of a 4th round pick. Here's a list of the guys taken in the 4th round. Hahaha.... I consider you a relatively smart person compared to some of the morons on this site...But that may be the stupidest thing I've ever read.
I wrote it hyperbolically to avoid the argument "who is better the QB? the dude i used as an example or tebow"
Assuming this isn't going to be a post that someone quotes in 3 years (ignoring that hindsight is 20/20), I'd have to say either LaMichael James, Brandon Hardin, Mohamed Sanu, Brandon Taylor, Rueben Randle, Vinny Curry, or my man Casey Hayward (obligatory homer inclusion). Edit: I was gonna leave this for later but I'm too lazy; I'm obviously implying that I'd trade up, packaging the 4th with either the Jets' 3rd or the 6th that also went to DEN.
Completely agree. Along with everyone who hates all the Tebow talk and comes to the Tebow forum to talk about how much they hate all the Tebow talk.
To be fair, Tebow Talk isn't the same as Jets-related ignorance (however some of it falls under the umbrella of the NYJ)
That makes zero sense. You don't bring in a good to great QB to push a mediocre one. You bring in a good to great QB to replace a mediocre one. Which is what the Broncos did, and the Jets tried to do. The Jets brought in a good to great football player (and flawed QB) to help the team. If it so happens that Tebow improves as a QB, AND Sanchez either treads water or regresses (unlikely) AND the Jets also drop out of playoff contention before the season is 3/4 complete (even more unlikely), there could be a change to Tebow.
