Are you really discussing pitchers in a football forum? How ridiculous are you?
Putting down posters left and right and cursing like a sailor? Are you trying to be the new JetsLookingforDWare?

i didn't see Mr.E serenading you with some Lady Gaga lyrics.......therefore....the Dware comparison is a complete failure.

Yeah, I did see JLfDW post Lady Gaga lyrics one time. That was quite strange. It's funny how he is so different at JetNation. He can't curse there and be abusive to others, so over there you can actually read his posts and not come to the conclusion that the guy is an idiotic belligerent troll.

Yep I read that too. It was on the Jetstwitter.

Would make Leon getting signed elsewhere rather shocking, but the only appeal he might have is teams could lock him into a deal @ a significant discount. He could be making 30 maybe even 20% of what he should be due to injury concerns.

Yes, if NE offers him a deal, the Jets should probably match it unless they just think Washington is shot. Losing such a dynamic player to a rival could be disastrous.

Pierre Thomas is a restricted FA with a 2nd round tender and I see teams signing him to an offer sheet before even considering Leon!

Hahahaha...is that supposed to be an insult or something?

I don't remember putting anyone down or cursing like a sailor in this thread either.

You don't count Cakes. You aren't supposed to post on TGG anymore. Remember that little fit you had for attention a few months ago?

Why can't people on this board stop acting like middle school girls for two minutes? I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I hate having to wade through these bitchy little feuds to talk football on a football forum.

As for the topic of the thread, I agree with the popular sentiment here. The only way that the Jets let Leon go is if someone overpays him greatly, in which case it would be prudent to let him walk. We have no idea how he'll bounce back from serious injury, and we have no idea how much money it will take to keep building blocks like Mangold and Revis around.

We do know, however, that we have a really good young back in Shonn Greene and that this draft is very deep for quality backs. Leon's a fan favorite and I'd certainly like to have him back, but the Jets are practicing good business here.

A post like this is actually fair. The word "usually" in there is particularly good.
We have 78 years of NFL statistics to determine how correct or wrong you might be. (The NFL began keeping statistics with the 1932 season.)
That's a lot of work, though, and I'm not sure exactly what we should look at here.

Maybe a decent start would be to look at teammates from random Super Bowls. I selected some games in which at least two backs each had at least 10 carries. This would toss aside cases like Super Bowl 35 when Jamal Lewis had 27 carries for 102 yards and Priest Holmes only had 4 carries for 8 yards.

    Super Bowl 41
Dominic Rhodes- 21 att, 5.4 avg
Joseph Addai- 19 att, 4.1 avg

    Super Bowl 27
Kenneth Davis- 15 att, 5.7 avg
Thurman Thomas- 11 att, 1.7 avg

    Super Bowl 9
Franco Harris- 34 att, 4.6 avg
Rocky Bleier- 17 att, 3.8 avg

    Super Bowl 7
Larry Csonka- 15 att, 7.5 avg
Jim Kiick- 12 att, 3.2 avg
Mercury Morris- 10 att, 3.4 avg

    Super Bowl 6
Walt Garrison- 14 att, 5.3 avg
Duane Thomas- 19 att, 5.0 avg

    Super Bowl 1, Packers
Jim Taylor- 17 att, 3.3 avg
Elijah Pitts- 11 att, 4.1 avg

    Super Bowl 2, Packers
Ben Wilson- 17 att, 3.6 avg
Donny Anderson- 14 att, 3.4 avg

    Super Bowl 3, Jets
Matt Snell- 30 att, 4.0 avg
Emerson Boozer- 10 att, 1.9 avg

    Super Bowl 4, Chiefs
Warren McVea- 12 att, 2.2 avg
Mike Garrett- 11 att, 3.5 avg

Of those nine cases, six times the guy with more carries also had a higher average per carry. Obviously, very small sample size, but maybe we are seeing that more carries does not always mean a lower average. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Uhh, that over-the-top on purpose crap wasn't at TGG. You brought it here for your gang of followers to enjoy. You were the one seeking attention. I wasn't even posting at this board at the time.

This argument is so far removed from its origins than I can't remember the original point. Anyone want to spare me from rereading the last few pages?

    Care to explain?

As for the cursing bit, clearly that is in reference to your board behavior in general. All anybody has to do is click on your profile and view your recent posts and he or she will find all sorts of unnecessary juvenile language. Now, most of us are guilty of it from time to time, myself included, but you go overboard with it. Much like JLfDW's act, it becomes a distraction and makes you look bad.

So anyway.... Looks like the Jets are in a good position in relation to Washington. I think that in the worst case, we get him back at a fair price. Highly doubtful he goes anywhere else and makes us look stupid.

Not much of a news day today, seems like the same 3 threads are the only ones at the top.

Using a 1 game sample of a Super Bowl is pretty ridiculous.. there are many factors why in ONE game a guy can have a better game than another RB on his team.

Defenses can be keying more on the one player, one guy can break one long run to inflate the stats, or one guy can get several short yardage/goalline carries to decrease his stats.

Obviously it's not right 100% of the time, but I see the point. Look at guys like LaMont Jordan. When he was a part time player he had huge ypc averages. When he became a full time back, it went down. There are many other players currently in the NFL that are in the same boat.. the more sporadically they are used, and put in the right situations, they have a higher ypc than if they get the ball more often and defenses are expecting it. Look at Norwood, R. Bush, Michael Turner, Leon, and I'm sure there are plenty others.

But the point of Leon as a Jet.. if we can get a 2nd rounder for him you have to take it. That being said, I don't expect anybody to fork over a 2nd rounder plus a boat load of cash to sign a RB coming off that injury.

Yeah, I did note the sample size was suspect. Where else should we start, though?

You know, if we were to look at all 44 Super Bowls and compare the numbers of all the RBs and we found the numbers to be all over the place, I would then contend that we wouldn't need to go any further. We'd probably see similar data for other games, seasons, and decades.

We have seen numerous RB committees where the guy with more carries had a higher average per carry. We have also seen the opposite.

You hit on a key point here. If the backup is used correctly he has a good chance to have a high average.

This whole thing started when the other guy wrote, "The guy didn't have over 150 carries in a season until he was with the Bears. So of course his YPC is going to be high when he was with the Buccaneers."
That was not a great comment for a few reasons. Among them is the fact that Jones had a low average with the Cardinals and in all three of those seasons he had fewer than 150 carries.

I just thought about the 1965 Browns. They had two future HOF running backs- Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly. Brown was 29 years old and is in final season. He had 289 attempts which led the league. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry. Kelly was 23 and in his second season. He only had 38 carries and a 3.8 average. The other back was Ernie Green. He was a pretty good player. Green had 111 carries and a 3.9 average.

It depends. Sometimes the backup is used in a way in which he can produce a high average. Often times the guy with more carries is simply the better runner and has a higher average because he's better.

    ...anyway, back to Leon:

Doesn't this pretty much contradict everything they have been saying about Leon thus far, media included? I thought he was supposed to be ready to go by TC. And if his leg is not healthy enough to pass a physical and would not be ready to go until the opener, why place such a high tender on him? Is someone really going to cough up a 2nd round pick for a halfback entering his late 20s who cannot pass a physical?
