That was a really classy statement! And I guess that Super Bowl win in 1969 -- the only Super Bowl the Jets have ever won -- didn't count towards a win.
I love baseless speculation during the offseason. Feely...missed some big kicks down the road this year. Rhodes...was benched halfway through the year, does not fit the scheme, and argues with the D coordinator, which apparently was never settled. Jones...faded down the stretch, a younger, faster, stronger back waiting in the wings, and it is over. Would not accept a restructured deal no longer being the feature back. Lito...not worth a ten million dollar salary this year. In the meantime, they trade for Cromartie, and stockpile some picks, after all we heard all year about the Jets needing depth, they now have the draft picks to do so. Yet somehow this gets spun into..."The Jets cut a 32 year old running back, the sky is falling".
Maybe zombie Leon Hess should come back from the grave and buy the team back from Woody. He could hire Kotite away from his insurance job in Staten Island and we could have a New York Jets golden age.
He was a co owner in 69. Three headed owner. Sonny Werblin appeared to be the main man, but the older fans on here can elaborate. Edit: He bought out his partners in 1977
It's a real tough call with Jones because I know what your saying. I think the fact that the only two teams that have shown any interest are Detroit and KC makes the Jets come out looking smart. He may realize he isn't going to get as much as he was going to get with us and he may come back for cheaper. It's only Day 3 of FA and there are a lot of guys that will be available. Adalius Thomas may find his way to green and white and so may Atogwe. If there is anything Mike T has shown is that he gets the guys he wants. There has to be a plan to the Leon deal. By adding another 2nd we might be able to move into the Top 10 and draft Eric Berry (I'm just making an example not even suggesting that's the plan)
Let me also add....Mangold, Revis, Brick, Harris....all are going to need new deals soon. Do you just spend lavishly and run the risk of not being able to sign the core players?
The way you back up your opinion is completely retarded. Not one player released was part and parcel to a Jets Championship run. Feely is a kicker who still may be signed. It is debatable if he is even a top 10 kicker. A kicker mind you that missed some big kicks this season. You probably didn't watch the Atlanta game did you? How about the kicks against the Colts? Oh boy huge loss there. You can see teams are tripping over themselves to sign him. Rhodes- You are just a fanboi. He was a lazy under achiever. Guys like that are easily replaceable in the NFL. Jones- Yes he was a leader. However at the end of the season he could barely average 2 yards a carry behind arguably the best line in Football. He may still be signed for less money too. 10 bucks said you cried about Coles not signing last year too. How did that work out?
His worth to others doesn't matter, to us he was really valuable and this would have been his last year regardless in an uncapped year. Maybe no one offers him and he comes back? I don't know, if that happens I'll be happy but I wouldn't count on it.
If you keep Jones around for one more year, then he plays one more year. That delays the process of drafting a top notch RB to be good for years to come. Kerry Rhodes isn't old, but it wasn't about his age. Leon isn't gone yet. Very possible he's still here next year. But even if he isn't, his replacement would likely come from the draft in the form of a youngER replacement. Feely may well be back also.
But DUDE! Didn't you hear?? THIS YEAR is UNCAPPED! That means that we can give them all 800 million dollars this year and everybody willl be FLOWERS AND CANDY HAPPY! WOODY IS A CHEAPSKATE!!!
I can understand why someone would be upset when they see these guys leaving (Especially Jones, I wanted him so so badly and was ecstatic when the Jets got him) but the moves all make sense from BOTH a business standpoint AND a Football standpoint. Folk is a solid kicker who had a down year. It's not unheard of for kickers to have down years and come back strong the next year with a new team. This guy went 6/6 in one game for dallas once, and two of the attempts IIRC were from 45+ yards. Maybe more. Cromartie has the ability to be a huge asset. He picked off Manning 3 times in one game a couple years ago. Didn't like the system in SD, and I feel Rex can get some real value out of him At RB we have two Solid backs (pending Leon's injury) and I wouldn't be surprised to see us make another deal to get a 3rd round pick, and picking up an RB (Anthony Dixon?) there as well, if there are questions about Leon. Also, if someone is fucking crazy enough to take Leon and his leg (he broke two bones at once in that leg, in like 7 different places) then theres no need to trade for a 3rd round pick, as they now have two seconds. I'm not sure what the Jets intend to do at Safety with the Kerry Rhodes void, but all he was doing was filling that void. I'd rather have Eric Smith start then Kerry at the point, so I was happy the pansy is gone. I trust in Rex and Tanny.
First off there is no sure thing in any draft and whether we use a draft pick on a RB or not he may or may not be top notch and we used a pick on a RB last year. We go from a position of great strength w/ Leon and TJ to a huge position of need. We have a win now team, it's silly to think about 2-3 years down the road w/ RBs especially when we drafted a RB of the future last year. Leon isn't old, there aren't many players w/ his skill set. It's foolish to think we could easily get a younger version of him. No one is saying to throw money around but it was silly not to pay Jones in his last year in this uncapped year and it was silly not to tender Leon at 1 st rd level for only $800K more.
I agree, I don't think they are frivolous enough to leave the Jets dangling with no idea of a safety replacement or a plan in general. They wouldn' have traded Rhodes with no plan at all. I am interested to see what happens between now and the draft.
It's posturing, to show Leon's retarded ass agent that he's not worth 20 million dollars or whatever that clown is asking for Leon.
Were Jay Feely and Thomas Jones asking for 800 million dollars? No. And I'm not saying those players should get that either.
