if youre a jet fan, you want him to succeed. even if you dont like him, you want him to at least show hes got trade value. and stop with the hater bullshit. you sound like a moron. thats not at all whats going on here. whats happened is a guy who was brought in to be the franchise qb has stunk up the joint for the most part so far and people are frustrated and rightfully so. THAT is a REAL fact.
The haters expect him to fail and don't want him to drag things out by doing just good enough not to lose his job. If he starts actually playing well and the team is winning, do you really think people are going to keep rooting for him to fail?
I think the time it would take and the "winning in spite of..." opinions will still be there a long time out. Or, you know, Smith deficiencies would prove them right. But their current assessments really don't warrant the negativity. It's not like Geno Smith lined up over center and called out plays to Jerry Rice and John Taylor. And his oline wasn't made up of starters from the 1992 Dallas Cowboys. This was a rookie and 2nd-year QB working behind one of the worst OLs in the NFL and with THE WORST WR corps in football. So, understandably, his rankings are going to be low. But this is exactly the experience you want your 2nd round QB to go through. Smith wasn't a first rounder for all the reasons we've seen from him on the Jets: immaturity. The behind the back fumble. 3 INTs in a quarter. frequent pick sixes. All the mistakes rookies and 2nd-year QBs make (those not named Andrew Luck that is). So, nobody should excuse the mistakes. But everyone should have expected them. It's how Smith handles this camp that matters. Throw all the stuff from year one and the latter part of year two, when Smith showed a glimpse of the ceiling he has. All that matters is how Smith handles this re-tooled offense: with its shored up interior oline and its shiny new and [n]used Cadillac WRs. Let's see what Smith has with his first LEGITIMATE chance to get something done. And, here's where the hate comes in: instead of looking forward hopefully to a blossoming of Smith's talents with the commensurate weapons and protectors he now has, these haters are focused on micro-analyzing Smith's past negative ratings and stats. "why was he so poor when he had time?" Because the suck@ss receivers weren't gaining separation or winning one-on-one battles. It's not rocket science: if your receivers are slow, the passing plays develop more slowly. That's not a great combination when you have a weakness at OG, the most direct path to the passer. Instead of recognizing the growth Smith has had even the cold statistics show us, the haters focus on their shrill arguments from two seasons ago. They ignore the good because, well, that's what hate does, it forces the truth from our minds and fills it lust. So, no, the haters are NOT wishing good fortune on Geno Smith. Far from it. Personally, I'm worried. I remember the Sanchez Year Three situation: (ridiculously) high expectations followed by failure. But I'm not going to let past Jets offensive struggles cloud my optimism for this team. They actually DO have weapons. They may actually have protectors as well (if these new OGs are indeed athletic upgrades). And Smith has his own NFL experiences from two seasons to help him. So, no excuses. I'm worried, but I'm optimistic based primarily on the personnel upgrades. To paraphrase Colon, really all Smith has to do is keep the Escalade on the road, not too far over the speed limit, and not drive drunk. I think Smith can do that.
see, now THIS is a good and legit argument for your case. the only thing i dont agree with is your 2nd year qb part. never want to see him regress.
relevant to how good or bad geno is or how good or bad geno plays. how many new OC's bash the incumbent starter in the offseason? Rex sung the praises of everyone. sanches, geno, hell erik freaking smith.
He shouldn't have even started a game until the middle of last year. He needed time to sit and watch and develop/fix his mechanics. With that said I'm expecting to see stark improvement, while not expecting him to set the world on fire. But I need to see him CONSISTENTLY go through progressions, and move the offense and help lead scoring drives. There will be mistakes but just as long as he's making strides it'll be forgiven.
was our line poor? yes. did our wideouts stink? yes. but you are placing way to much blame. geno was just as bad as our wideouts and worse then our offensive line. he also had the benefit of one of the leagues best rushing attacks to take some of the pressure off. i can see your argument if geno was below average or struggled time to time. be he has been god awful. worst qb in the league in 2013 among qualified starters and 25th last season. he has been pretty much as bad as it gets. Decker and Kerley in my mind are much better WRs then Geno is a QB.
im not rooting for his failure, im rooting for fitzpatrick to beat him out so i dont need to worry about him failing.
None to my knowledge. But, then again, they generally name the best guy to be the starter or the guys they generally expect give them the best shot at winning. So, I'm not sure what your point is supposed to be. Smith is the starter because Jets management says so. If your hate won't let you grasp that, seek help.
Yeah, well, no: Comparing Smith to the WRs: Smith, with credible WRs, had a perfect game ratings wise. The starting WRs for the entire 2013 and much of 2014 aren't starters anywhere else and a couple are not on any NFL roster. Our OL was ranked 31st, Winters was rated THE WORST OG, Geno 27th...according to some metrics.
What's YOUR point? MM is a quality OC. That it didn't work out with a rookie/2nd year QB and some of the worst offensive talent in the NFL really doesn't significantly tarnish his record IMO.
Um, you ever heard of the associated property of Identity. You're rooting for his failure because that's the only way Fitzpatrick beats him out. So, you may still need to worry.
My point is it doesn't matter what Gailey says about Geno. He still fucking sucks until he proves otherwise. Marty said nice things about Geno last year too - I'm glad I didn't take them to the bank.
I don't think they will keep rooting for him to fail but i'm sure they will be itching for him to fuck up so they wont look wrong. A lot of egos on TGG, i think we can all agree with that.
I'm sure most people would love for Geno to turn it around and kick some ass. We just don't expect it. At all.
Just believe bro. Sit back and enjoy the year of the geno. it's going to happen. whether people like it or not.
my point was contradicting the logic that Geno Smith is good because the offensive coordinator said he was good. that seems like pretty bad reasoning.
