If the draft really went that way, and there was no trading down, who do you think NYJ should go with at 10? I'm thinking Latham but I'm not totally sold.
I feel the same way about Latham. The Alabama premium he gets, that his feet are relatively slow, that he likely just plays right tackle, etc. make me hesitant to go in his direction. I haven’t looked very carefully at the options, but I think I would take a chance on an athletic freak who has a chance to become a franchise left tackle. I would look at Mims, Fautanu, Guyton and others to see if they have a good chance for developing. If none of the tackles were convincing for pick 10, I’d consider a WR like Legette, Mitchell, or Thomas. But I don’t think the Jets will actually be in this lousy position because there will be a lot of trading interest for pick 10. For example, McCarthy was left out of this draft scenario, and I think the quarterback needy teams, (including Minnesota, Denver, and Oakland) will be competing to move up and get their quarterback.
First of its kind: 28. Jackson Powers-Johnson OC Oregon 33. Kingsley Suamataia OT BYU 62. Ja'Tavion Sanders TE Texas 66. Xavier Legette WR South Carolina 93. Calen Bullock S USC 94. Delmar Glaze OT Maryland 101. Michael Pratt QB Tulane 134. Brenden Rice WR USC 6 picks in the top 100. This is after I traded up with 2 picks in 2nd/3rd to get to 33. (Yes. That's why it was a first of its kind.) 2x OTs. Not complaining over this. 1x C (at a future starter). I am happy with this. And all other picks in the earlier parts of the draft.
This draft was crazy. Alt fell to #10, but Minnesota wanted to trade up to take Terrian Arnold CB, so I traded down with them and received picks #11, #23, #167 and their 3rd, 5th, and 7th round picks in 2025. Too bad that couldn't happen for real in the upcoming draft. At #11 I took Alt. At #23 Fashanu was there, it was too early to take Leggette, and I'm not that high on Xavier Worthy, so I took Fashanu and the Jets would have their bookend OTs for the next 10-15 years. The only negatives were that I didn't get as good a WR prospect as I had hoped and as good IOL depth as I had hoped 11 Joe Alt OT | Notre Dame TRADE 23 Olumuyiwa Fashanu OT | Penn State TRADE 72 Brenden Rice WR | USC 111 Jaden Hicks S | Washington State 134 Audric Estime RB | Notre Dame 167 Brandon Coleman IOL | TCU TRADE 185 Jordan Travis QB | Florida State 256 C.J. Hanson IOL | Holy Cross 257 Steele Chambers LB | Ohio State
The first four picks of this draft would be a dream come true. There's no way that Leggette will fall to #72, however. Getting both he and Rice would be a huge boost for our WR corps and getting Alt would be amazing. 10. Joe Alt OTNotre Dame 72. Xavier Legette WRSouth Carolina 111. Hunter Nourzad OCPenn State 134. Brenden Rice WR USC
This was on PFF, with trade for Denver's 12th and 76th picks for our 10th: 12. Olu Fashanu - T 72. Spencer Rattler - QB 76. Malachi Corely - WR 111. Beaux Limmer - C 134. Audric Estime - RB 185. De'Corian Clark - WR 256. Jaden Crumedy - DT 257. Delmar Glaze - T I think the Jets should seriously consider a player like Rattler as a developmental QB. He can sit and learn from AR for a couple of years, and his upside is tremendous.
10 Joe Alt OT | Notre Dame 72 Malachi Corley WR | Western Kentucky 111 Christian Mahogany IOL | Boston College 134 Michael Pratt QB | Tulane 185 Kitan Oladapo S | Oregon State 256 Ryan Flournoy WR | Southeast Missouri State 257 Justin Rogers DL | Auburn IMO getting Alt, Corley and Mahogany with the 1st 3 picks would be pretty sweet.
