it goes both ways. Stick with mark and see whether a new system helps him develop into the qb we all want him to be or get peyton and potentially win it all. As much as peyton is a once in a lifetime thing, I just dont think its worth it. I personally want the jets to be one of the best teams in the NFL year in and year out. Having manning healthy (and that's a big if) for a few years is not continued and consistent greatness. I think we owe mark the shot to develop.
I don't think we're going to see the same Peyton Manning when he returns to the field. I think the old Peyton is gone for good. He'll still be a good QB, but he won't be the same as he was in the Indy system.
His physical limitations are certainly a red flag. We haven't even discussed putting Manning in Rex and Sporano's "Ground and Pound" system. Seems pretty incompatible to me.
Manning's football IQ is through the roof and he'll be able to play in ANY system. That's not an issue. I actually think it would be neat to see him play in Schotty's system, he may be the only QB in the league that could efficiently run that thing.
The great thing about the Peyton Manning to the Jets speculation is that it's finally clear to Sanchez that he is not protected as the starter. The Jets have made that clear to him.
I do not get that. I cannot think of an instance where a QB was drafted early in round 1, started for multiple seasons and THEN was benched to learn under somebody else for a year or two. It is nonsensical.
Teams that win consistently are built around players and systems that develop together. We set ourselves back with Favre, it turned out to be a blessing since it led to Rex, but I don't want to chase a one year fix again with Manning. Give Sanchez more time to develop with a new OC. If he isn't the answer, we'll need to blow things up and start with another young QB, not a 36 year old who has had his spine fused.
Absolutely right. He won't be the same player he was in the dome, in the Indy system, surrounded by players he had played with for years, with an adoring press saying nothing about what ailed the Colts because the Colts were the only team in town. I hope he winds up in Miami. He's not going to make them a Super Bowl contender. He'll cap the process if the Fins put all the other pieces together but that's what it's going to take, And if the Fins put all the other pieces together they're Super Bowl contenders whether they have Manning or not.
They would seriously need to address the playing surface at Candlestick. The field they played on in the playoffs was terrible, and Manning requires precision routes. Look no further than the 41-0 beatdown by the Jets in the playoffs to see what a bad playing surface can do to a surgeon like Peyton.
With that D and running game they would be a lock on any surface. SF wins the SB this year with a reasonably sound QB.
For what it's worth, I think that the Pats would've taken San Fran down. The 49ers had no answer for the Saints passing offense, and they would've lost that game if not for some bad unforced errors by New Orleans. The Pats offense was just as dominant, and they rarely make those kinds of mistakes. Yup, Manning is good enough that he could play in any system. Not that he'd have to. When you have a player as good as Manning, you tailor the system to him -- you don't shoehorn him into something that minimizes his ability.
My sentiments also, I think it would be GREAT for Mark to LEARN the QB position from one of the All-Time great signal callers. Mark is just 25 & was a 1yr starter @ USC prior to being drafted, experience wise last year would have been his senior year & he would be entering this years draft. I don't think it's that far out of the realm for him to understand that.
The Pats might well have taken them down but Brady would have had his ass pounded for 60 minutes. Alex Smith is not a solid NFL QB. They guy was scared out of his skull in the Giant game once they shadowed him and kept him from running out of the pocket. A tough solid QB wins that game going away.
Yeah, not comparable. He started for the Express and Buccs and then went to a completely different franchise to mostly ride the bench for several years.
Just because something has never happened before doesn't mean it won't work. I agree financially it's a stretch and it would be a huge blow to Sanchez's ego but it isn't impossible.
