Its not even a question if Peyton is leaving or not. Luck is a #1 pick, I keep seeing these analyst comparing this to Favre and Rodgers. Rodgers wasnt the #1 Pick, he was in the late 20s. He wasnt paid anywhere to what a #1 is. I will be shocked if the Colts keep Luck and Manning. Its clearly over tho, new GM, new Coach probably. If I was Jim Isray I would prepare for the next era which is with Luck.
Still to much money tied to a position where only 1 guy can play at a time. Peyton's due 28mil soon and I doubt they pay that healthy or not. Peyton is as good as gone and will likely choose between San Francisco, Washington, New York and Miami
Yes, way too much..it would cost them 37 million on Manning alone between his roster bonus and base salary and he may not even be able to play..of course he might renegotiate. Add in what Luck gets in a signing bonus and first year money and Irsay might be shelling out 50 million on one position for one year. It's not cap hit money but it is real out of pocket dollars.
And what exactly is this pay scale? I'm having some trouble finding it. Regardless, as the first pick overall, he'd still be eligible for a lot of money.
It changes every year, just like the salary cap. Look at the contracts that rookies signed in 2011, and you will know what the wage scale was for last season. It's not too hard.
If this scenario ever does happen where Peyton is traded, they would never trade him in the AFC in my opinion and especially the Jets because Indy plays the Jets next season! If he is released or there is some other scenario where Peyton gets to choose thats a different story then, still think its all a pipe dream though.
Probably mentioned here many times already but Peyton will not take the NY/NJ spotlight away from his brother. Won't happen. NY is Eli's town (In Peyton's opinion)
Peyton Manning in a Jets uniform will be the biggest story of next year. Woody wants to make this a Jets town, get Manning. And if Manning wins a SB here next year (chances are very good), he becomes an even bigger legend than he already is (as well as the probable GOAT), and this might permanently become a Jets town.
Here's the thing about Manning. Roster bonus of $28 million due 5 days before league year starts. Due to new CBA, roster bonus cannot be moved. In other words, he's going to either be released or kept this year. The cap hit is just way too high to trade him after they pay $28 million. That means if he's available at all, Manning can choose where he can go. He's late in his career, so he's going to choose a team that's relatively close to a championship. Here are his possible destinations: * SF - Good defense, weak division. Upgrade over Alex Smith. * SEA - Good defense, weak division. They need a QB and have a lot of WRs. * ARI - Weak division, Larry Fitzgerald. He'd be like Kurt Warner, only better. * PHI - Good talent, mediocre division. They'd have to get rid of Vick, though. * WAS - This would be a money grab since Snyder would pay through the nose. * DAL - Doubt this, but it would make Romo available to another team. * KC - Dark horse. They looked good at the end of the year. * TEN - Get back at his old team? Kenny Britt comes back. * HOU - If Schaub's health is in question, this is pretty much the ideal destination for him with Andre Johnson there and a chance to play the Colts twice a season. * BAL - If Flacco does really bad this postseason, this would make sense, too. * NYJ - We'd have to give up on Sanchez, pretty much by releasing him. Honestly, we'd be fighting many teams. I'd imagine SF would go after him the hardest.
How are chances very good? Explain this to me. What from this season, makes you think this team will turn around? Peyton sat out a whole fucking season and still isn't even ready to throw yet. Our TEAM was average at best last season. Our fan base is the fucking stupidest and most stubborn fucking idiots.
People keep bringing up manning being traded - That can't happen. He holds all the cards with his current contract. His money is due BEFORE THE LEAGUE YEAR STARTS -- meaning they have to cut him prior to the start of any trades/FA or pay him his money. Manning can push the date back a bit but he isn't going to play too nice now that Irsay is gone.
Sadly, this could be the reason he might not come here. Then again, if he thinks we are his best chance to win he could say fuck it.
Given the Jets already played the Giants this year, if Peyton came on-board for presumably 3 years, it wouldn't be a practical matter of significance as the Jets wouldn't play the Giants for another 4 years and are in a completely different conference. Whatever hype and brouhaha this would have would be purely from a media standpoint. Your beat writer Manish doesn't seem to think Manning would want to touch the Jets organization with a 20-foot pole due to the current outward perceptions of the organization and the circus / drama that would follow. Personally I would love to see my Peytie-poo come to the Jets and be paired with Rex (my favorite coach in the NFL), who we all know LOVES Manning. Manning has taken a far, far lesser team to a Superbowl, with a far worse offensive line and made it work (amazing how a QB with decisive decision making, a quick release and mastery of his offense with where his receivers will be and ability to read a defense pre-snap can cover up for alot of flaws on a team). Obviously, this is under the assumption that Manning is anywhere close to what he was the last time he played - his camp has been extremely secretive about letting any information about his status come out (this was the main catalyst in his behind-the-scenes feud with Bill Polian) and there are many indications unfortunately he might never play again - but if he did, I'd love it if it were the Jets and have an opportunity to beat Brady twice a year ats_suck:
Meh I was being facetious. We're the Indy Mannings remember? Anyway, alot of Colts fans want what's best for Manning at this point in his career - we all know Indianapolis gives him little to no chance of realistically giving him a shot at the Superbowl, not to mention alot of Colts players might've played their last game in a Colts uniform this year (Mathis, Reggie, Dallas Clark, Ryan Diem, Jeff Saturday, Gary Brackett) Irsay also mentioned he'd treat Manning's future as a "family decision" rather than a "football decision" ..not sure if that means doing what's best for Manning and setting him free to sign with a team that gives him the best chance to win. Indy is in complete rebuilding mode, if he stays, he'll probably win a weak division and be one-and-done in the play-offs ..at this point in his career, we all want him to cement his legacy, even if it means winning a Superbowl in another uniform. Alot of the fanbase believe that it's simply not possible to have Luck and Manning on the same team and in fact, WANT the Colts to move on from Manning, in his and the team's best interests. One early indicator to keep an eye out for - if the new GM cuts or retains Caldwell, I think that will be the first sign that will suggest what direction the Colts want to move in regarding Manning's future as retaining him might suggest a desire to maintain continuity and possibly gear up for another run. Manning's health is obviously the wild-card at this stage as there've been conflicting reports of him throwing at the practice facility with team mates and outright denials saying he's nowhere close.
This team went 8-8, and if we are being realistic, could have been, and should have been 11-5 or better with a better QB and OC. We had the worst year possible and won 8 games. The defense was bad and still finished in the top 10. Greene wasn't great, and still had a decent year. When you consider that, than add: 1. The schedule will be easy next year. 2. Schotty is gone. 3. The team will make changes/improvements to weaknesses. This team with Sanchez is winning 11 games next year. 2 losses to NE, a loss to Pitt, Houston and San Fran should be tops next year. You add Manning, and this team is winning 13+ games. Easily. I know thats hard to contemplate unless you are a "stubborn fucking idiot," but I tried to dumb it down as far as I could for someone who apparantly is not a "stubborn fucking idiot," at least in his own mind.
If Manning is healthy enough to start next year (and that's a big if), I don't see him looking beyond SF and attempting to become the second coming of Montana. If he doesn't I can't see any other team that has a more compelling argument than the Jets (if we are interested). The other teams on RevisandHarris' list don't seem feasible.
I just dont see Manning, who wants a 2nd ring to prove he is the best, going to San Fran, the place where the best qb in NFL history played, to win that ring. Moreover, call me crazy, but I just dont think San Fran is very good. They feasted on an easy schedule, and I think might get blown out this weekend. And honestly, its much easier to get by the AFC, with only the Pats and Ravens or Steelers in your way, than it would be getting through the NFC, which has what should be a good Eagles team, a good Packers team, a good Saints team, a good Falcons team, a good Giants team, and what should be a much better Bears team.
