The odds on Peyton Manning being successful with the Jets next season are fairly low. There is a chance that lightning strikes and the Jets win 12 games or so but there's probably an equal chance that a meteor lands and the Jets go 4-12. The team has fundamental problems right now and those problems begin right at the top with the GM and HC. Bringing in Manning would shine a light on those problems and magnify them instead of beginning to resolve them.
Havent discussed this Manning thing in a week, but had to bump it considering the backpage of the daily news had Manning on it... That was from a couple weeks ago... This was from todays... It appears we might be first in line for Manning, the 49ers are going to sign Alex Smith to an extension soon, the Redskins are likely to draft RG3. That leaves the Jets and a bunch of noncontenders. Here is a writers take on the Jets: "New York Jets: The Jets will be most vocal, and the “presumed” landing spot in the media. They have a good defense, a good o-line, and a solid running game. I don’t see it happening though. The Jets have committed to Sanchez at QB, and would have to move him to keep him happy. Plus the Jets have little in terms of weapons at WR for Manning to use, not to mention a head case for a coach and a completely dysfunctional locker room." http://12thmanrising.com/2012/01/11/where-could-peyton-manning-land/ To get him or not?
I dont think Manning would want to play for Rex with that said Reggie Wayne is a FA we could sign him to come along if we had to please Manning in some way
Rex has always praised Manning, im suprised tho the 49ers are extending Alex Smith. I always felt they were going to land Manning and let Smith go. Thats also where I felt Peyton would want to go considering its warmer weather, GREAT team, etc.
Jets fans on here are defensive about it, but to other cities/states, they look like an undisciplined mess right now. Do you think Manning is watching every sports news outlet trashing the Jets and saying, "I want to go there"? If he leaves the Colts, he will play for a dome or a warm weather team. Why, coming off the neck surgery he's had, would he go to a cold weather team? The Jets aren't on the brink of a SB the way they were the past 2 years. It sucks, and I hate it, but it's reality.
True but im sure he wants to win it all again, the 49ers just arent that great. Last year they struggled in an awful divison
Manning needs to do the sensible thing. He needs to take a good hard look at his family and retire. Prior to the neck issues I'd welcome him, no problem. Having him come here and be injured is too risky. If an injury were to occur and involve paralysis or worse, it would have the potential to destroy the team. Nothing wrong with bringing in another quarterback to compete with or replace Sanchez but Manning isn't the answer.
The sky is falling. We suck. Forget about it. Is it time for the Mets' season to begin yet? Some of you act like the NYJ's have had better teams and coaches in past years. Come back to reality, please.
What will get them the most hits and readers? Talking about Manning, or pissing about Sanchez? Manning is never going to be a New York Jet.
What are you serious? the 49ers arent good? they just went 13-3 with Alex Smith....they have a great defense. If Manning was on offense, then forget it they could win a title or 2...
Thats true - another issue he would consider with his neck would be the amount of sacks let through by the O-Line this year - does he went to be pummeled to the extent Sanchez was and greatly increase the risk of further injury to his neck?
Did you look who they played ? The only "good" teams they beat were the Cmen and Lions. You can add in Pitt (with an incredibly crippled rapist) if youd like. Fact is theyre a heaping pile of trash and Brees will expose them. Theres a reason the rams AND seahawks did better than them last year. Guarentee they dont win 10 next year, theyre not even a lock for the division.
I doin't see why Payton wouldn't want to come here However, why would we be investing in a possible Sparano/Haley combo (which seems to be a strong coaching-oriented combo) if the ultimate goal is to bring Manning here, when the OC is basically superfluous with him.
Cuz we learned our lesson w the Asomugha debacle. If ypu get the prize you get the prize, but you can't ignore your needs while waiting. Fact is as of this moment Peytons under contract and NOT yet on the trade block. hell his injurys still an unknown for now
