I was referring to Hack and his chances of being a starter in this league. At one point, Hack was also considered to be a top pick before Penn State went and ran the option / changed his mechanics which were bad changes that made Hack regress in college and ultimately dropped him a round or 2 in the NFL draft, not the same scenario by any means as years passed where Hack had played with bad mechanics. Hack gets all of the scouting reps right now so he is getting some feel for the game. We don't have a rock solid organization, or a HOF QB either. Everything was in place for Rodgers to succeed. It will take Hack and only Hack to really prove to the organization that he can be that guy because the Jets have a hard time identifying who can play and who cannot. I am glad however, they aren't starting him next week because it would be a total waste. Hack could very well be another exception to the rule. Mentally, Hack knows how to run the pro offense, go through reads, a lot of the foundation mentally is there.
I am reminded of a certain QB drafted in 6th round. He was slow with reads, slow with releases and slow to avoid the rush. And a few other QBs that played in his shoe, and excelled nonetheless. I am saying this because, knowing what to expect [1] and knowing how to handle it [2] makes a world of difference in terms of that reaction speed you talk about. I don't think Failey and Patullo were effective in terms of preparing a young QB into that role. [Yeah. Brad. You are swinging hard and missing hard on this one.]
It seemed to me that Petty showed flashes of adjusting to the defensive set and making changes to his reads, but like all QB's with a just a few starts he made his share of mistakes. Why do you have some desire to throw Petty on the ash heap after a few starts with the season over and the OL decimated? Were you OK to put up with 2 seasons of crap play by Geno? Jeez, give the kid some time to adjust to the NFL. What rookie or 1st year QB's come in with Farve like reactions?
Wow! I am amazed at how some of you guys can tell whether a guy can succeed as an NFL quarterback just by watching them play in less than two games. It is too bad the Jets don't have geniuses like you working for them.
http://nesn.com/2015/12/patriots-qb-tom-brady-draws-motivation-from-negative-coachs-notes/ Brady fixed that in one off-season, after his rookie yr. Fucking Brady. The game is naturally slower for him. I never seen Brady have the happy feet, Petty has though. That man always has dancing shoes on. Add that Petty can't make a secondary read to save his life.
Petty still has a chance to be a decent QB in the NFL. I doubt it happens in NY, as the franchise is often too ready to move on from one QB prospect to the next without giving them a lot of time to truly develop. If he could land somewhere that has a solid QB Coach and/or OC and a solid starter already in place, I could see him taking advantage of that, learning from someone who actually knows what they're doing, and then translating that into a decent career if/when he gets his next opportunity to step out onto the field. Since he's on IR, though, the Jets need to start Hackenberg. They're not going to do it, since they are resigned to treating him like some porcelain doll that you keep under lock and key, but he needs to be out there, getting some reps on film that he can use to learn from in the offseason.
No, it's called being smart and not throwing a QB out there to appease fans. They want to fix his mechanics before putting him out there.
It's more probably to keep him from getting hurt so they don't have to pay anything more than they have already wasted.
sure is going to be interesting to see what happens when Fitz gets killed this weekend behind that line ,,,most likely he hands off 40 times
What rotoworld has to say Wasted-pick Hackenberg not starting Week 17 Jets second-round rookie Christian Hackenberg will not start Week 17. You normally need to call in the National Guard to prevent quarterback-needy teams from contriving reasons to start early-round "prospects." The Jets, however, are closing their eyes and pretending Hackenberg doesn't exist. Not that it's surprising. Hackenberg was not a legitimate prospect at Penn State, and completely imploded in the preseason. He's not an NFL quarterback. It's that simple. The Jets might as well have donated the No. 51 overall pick to charity. Hackenberg won't be assured a roster spot in 2017.
I think that is based on a little more than that, Rotoworld is usually pretty reliable in their research. Two QBs are on IR and the third will never see a green uniform again. The record is what it is, why wouldn't you start him? Sanchez and Smith both started the very first week of their NFL careers, are you saying he isn't even good enough to start his 16th?
They have a developmental plan for the QB, and that includes not throwing him out there until he fixes his mechanics.
That may very well be true but to put him on the field in a meaningless game would get him a feel for the tempo and pressure to come in the future without any real expectation of success this week. The game can't slow down for a QB until he experiences its speed.
Brady started to get happy feet with inside pressure, but it doesnt affect him any longer because the Pats OL doesnt give up inside pressure anymore. Belichick fixed a part of his team that impacted his MVP QB. Imagine that! The 2010 playoff win by the Jets they had 5 sacks on Brady (Ellis with 2 rushing up the gut. )
That plan was made when all 4 Qbs were healthy and the record was 0-0. As of this moment he may be the only QB coming back who can start the '17 season. What is he going to learn in his next 6 months off?
You have to learn to walk before you run. Putting out there in a meaningless game can get the kid hurt, and if he changes his mechanics, what we will learn from this game other then his shitty mechanics? I would rather see the Jets fix him, give him and Petty work meaning all of the reps with a 3rd backup Vet. Once he gets the reps see how he does since he has a better familiarity with the system. Then he can go out there and get all the live action he wants and it could very well accelerate his learning.
Petty has some of the worst happy feet I've seen from a QB. After 1 read he panics. Whatever Brady had to fix, he fixed it himself, and the CS knew he was slow and he sped his game up. This was after 1 year of being in the league, Brady fixed that issue.
