Why? he held out as a rookie to get a deal much better than his draft slot which he got then w/ 3 years left he held out for more. You don't think it's possible he holds out in a couple of years? I expect it to happen unless they get a long term agreement in place, I just wish Revis would have said no comment when king asked him that question. he comes across looking awful for saying what he said.
What's more unlikely -- multi holdout revis saying something self centered or Peter King completely 100% blowing a major story. I would be so pissed if I were Woody right now.
Hopefully we get a Superbowl out of this guy, and then Sanchez will have matured. Then trade Revis in 4-5years when he is 29/30... probably could still get outrageous value for him.
Well he held out with three years left on a contract, why not with five? I suspect it won't be an issue by then since they have two years to get a long-term deal done and we'll know by then what a new CBA will bring and what kind of cap space we (and other teams) have to deal with.
Meeeeeeeeevi$$$$$$.... no surprises here. For all the headaches he's gone and caused he damn well better earn this contract he has. I feel pretty confident he will, but still...
Can we at least wait until the details on contract language come to light before we start assuming what he can and can't do in two years?
Apparently Revis already thinks he can hold out in two years... lol I will be very surprised if Tanny left him any wiggle room to get away with it again to be honest. Unless they just wanted to get the band-aid solution in place for now I suppose.
This tweet reminds me of the Action 8 news sketch on SNL with Jerry Seinfeld. A common item in your house is probably killing you as we speak. More on this at 11! King is just trying to up his readership numbers with this. Be careful, you're refusing to jump down Revis' throat at the first sign of possible trouble in the future.
Well ESPN Countdown going with the King story and adding that the Jets were 'floored' by those reported comments. Has any player ever held out three times from the same team before?
Not surprised at all. I'm sure the Jets realized this was a definite possibility when they signed Revis to a front-loaded deal. However, they didn't think he would come out and say it a week after the deal is signed. Woody seems fine going all-in for two years to try and win a SB. I don't think he'll get played by Revis in 2012 and Revis' comments allow the Jets to prepare to have him sit for the duration.
Yeah, I just love how criticizing Revis for being greedy and his agents for being morons suddenly translates into "NO CRITICISM OF REVIS PERIOD" just because you suggest that we shouldn't panic and act like idiots until he misses a regular season game. Which he didn't do.
So if we start "The Official Darrelle Revis Will Hold out Again Thread" now will we make it to 100k posts?
Good luck. I'd laugh to see Revis try to hold out a 3rd time. The Jets had minimal time to prepare for the holdout this year. Give them 2 years and advanced warning and a contract that then ties him up for 5 seasons and he'd have to be the biggest moron in the NFL to try. Not even his agents are that stupid, since they assured there wouldn't be a holdout by Revis in the next 4 years.
But he's soooooo greedy!!11!1!!!111!!!11!SH1FT I cannot get over the fact that we're 2 days away from the most anticipated season opener since Parcells was coaching and we're still in bash Revis mode, getting set off by a speculative tweet based on a hypothetical question regarding an event 2 years away.
The tweet was from Peter King, who has become the leading NFL columnist in the land. ESPN picked it up and ran with it immediately. To suggest that this is a non-issue is kind of silly. For whatever reason Darrelle Revis couldn't resist getting in a dig at the Jets less than a week after the situation was resolved. He did so in the context of a fan base that had gotten really tired and sore about the issue. If the next two years are going to be about Darrelle Revis and his potential holdout the Jets are going to be a lot less fun to watch and talk about and all the rest of what makes being a fan interesting. In that situation I'd rather the Jets just let him go. You have to like the players you root for and Darrelle Revis is as unlikable as any Jet since Mark Gastineau in my opinion.
Peter King's the "leading NFL columnist in the land?" Really? In any case, he's not the leading source for inside information. Far from it. His columns are more about Brett Favre's new wranglers and how much he loves Starbucks than what actually happens in the league. And I'd rather have the best cornerback in football on the field than let him go so we can have a team made up entirely of fun, likeable guys. But maybe that's just me.
Fixed it for you. And since when has ESPN ever been a paragon of journalistic integrity? They've picked up and ran with less than that before. The only way it's going to be all about a supposed Revis holdout is if you keep making it about a purported potential holdout. If you concentrate on the season instead of a report/tweet from a writer who made a career out of being a Brett Favre fanboy and throwing out speculation left and right then you'll do a great job of ruining the season for yourself. And that tweet was clearly mostly a promotional move to up his readership for MMQB. You don't even know what the question was that elicited that response.
According to the original report the question King asked Revis was "what happens in 2012 after you've already made $32 million?"
Sure, one line taken out of context of the rest of the interview. Great basis for a judgement. The interview isn't printed, and it's speculation for something that's two years away. Why don't we try focusing our attention on something more immediate. Like the season opener.
