If this was true...And say we win the superbowl within the next 2 years. Do we meet Revis's demands with another holdout?
depends on who else needs to be resigned. If the cap room is there, then see what can be done. If the team is strapped, then trade him. The minute this team win a SB, he'll hold out again. He'll have every reason to.
I love how 6 days after he signs, we're already onto another hold out threat. I can't wait for Monday.
If Darrelle Revis maintains his level of play from 2009 through two more consecutive seasons, he'd be a fool not to hold out. Three years of that level of play makes you the best cornerback of all time. Period. Get paid.
I seem to remember Tanny mentioning that this deal was to get him back on the field and that they are hoping that they can still work out a deal in the future to make him a Jet for life. That said, I think that this deal is structured to get through the next 2 seasons so that the NFL can get the collective bargaining agreement settled and also Asomugha should be a free agent by then and he can get a real value contract which will be used to restructure Revis's.
I don't think a CB that age should get a benchmark contract, but I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility that he will.
The thread starter said this took place on the NBC halftime show today. I think that means it was during the Notre Dame telecast. If so, then that is a different crew. But, then why discuss NFL stuff during halftime of a college game? There were college highlights to show. If anything, I could see NBC doing a two minute thing on the Cowboys-Redskins game. I just don't understand why Revis would get a mention during halftime of a college game.
It was probably a joke and King knew it but having an opportunity to stick it to the Jets he took out the dagger. Why would Revis tell this to a known Jets hater? May as well told Fatcessa.
This is probably how that convo went King: So what happens in 2012? Revis: Well we're worry about that when the time comes...for now my focus is 100% on this season. Or it didn't and he really told Peter King that he plans on holding out again in 2012. At any rate I don't give a shit
SI_PeterKing Revis on idea of '12 holdout:"If I continue to play ball like I usually do, we'll probably be back at that same position we were this year." 16 minutes ago via TweetDeck SI_PeterKing But on Revis, hold on. Read MMQB, with my interpretation of what the contract means, before judging this story. 15 minutes ago via TweetDeck
Hey sign my ass up for wanting 2 more years of a CB having an all time best statistical year. If Revis gives Jets 2 more years like that we are all winners...... who gives a flying fuck about this. This is a win-win scenario.
Except Darrelle Revis who will have pocketed $32.5 million for 2 years work at that point. That's going to be his baseline. That's why the deal is structured the way it is. He's his own Asomugha... I cannot believe that he actually let that statement out there, about being in the same place in 2012 that they were this year. King must have misheard him or misunderstood or something. Nobody on this earth could be so self-centered that right after he resolved one holdout he'd start talking about the next even though the season was opening two days later. There's just no way he's that memememe.
But the contract states they would own his rights for 7 years than. Not happening. In 4 years we'll go through this again, end of story.
Careful. You are going to be called out for being a troll and an idiot for daring to speak out against Revis in any way. That is sacrilege. All that matters is that he is on the field for this season. Nothing else. Speak out against Namath - that's OK, even if you never saw him play. Sanchez - fair game. Woody and Tannenbaum - no problem. But Revis is not only the best Jets player, but he is teflon man. He can say anything and demand any sum of money, but any Jets fan that criticizes him for being the least bit greedy is made fun of on this board.
yeah, that's why it makes no sense and its a non story. So he'll play two years and then wait until he's in his 30's to play again? That's stupid. He'll hold out one year after 2012 so that he doesn't sit for multiple years. This is very simple. King is trying to stir a pot that doesn't exist. I'm already bored with this bullshit
