Something tells me a team that just used a 2nd round pick on a receiver, traded a 4th for an option QB and hired one of the most noted run-oriented offensive minds in the league for the past few years isn't going to try and acquire a guy that wants the ball in his hands. Would be nice but, I don't think it happens.
I would rather deal with Holmes than deal with Harvin and his migraines! He never had migraines at Florida, but once he entered the NFL, the migraines started.
This is correct. In fact, they could well decide not to bring him here if he's available, just because they don't want to create the impression they're on some sort of hair-trigger, just waiting to promote Tebow.
Depending on how much it costs us trade wise, I'd grab Percy in a heartbeat. Someone previously mentioned a 4th and a 5th... DONE DEAL IMO
No, pro-rated bonuses hit the cap along with certain future bonuses in a trade situation. Guaranteed salary only accelerates on the cap if the player is cut.
Keep in mind he’s a pretty damn good running back (specialty back) too, along with being the most talented slot receiver in the game and one of the best kick returners. If we could get him for a 5th, even a 4th, I would do it in a heart beat. Try covering a set with Holmes - Harvin - Keller - Hill 2 of the fastest WR’s in the game on the field at the same time. Scary thought...
Minnesota isn't gonna trade him for nothing. I think they wouldn't mind unloading him out of the NFC however. Jets loved Harvin when he was coming out. Rex said in his book they would've drafted him if they didn't take Sanchez. You like his versatility and his YAC appeal. What you wonder is what Sparano thinks of Harvin. I think the Jets would need to give up a player & a mid round pick for his services. McKnight & a 5th?
Under the assumption that you are using him in a hybrid specialty RB/Slot type role...would you unload Mcknight,Kerely & a late rounder for him?
1. Enough shrimp on receiving corp. Holmes is filling that role nicely. 2. As far as WR-on-IR is concerned, Schiliens is filling that role already. Don't need another. 3. Jets need the draft picks to restock on: OL/OLBs/Safeties first. 4. Another 5th-for-Percy deal, I might tag along. That said, it's not happening. Don't even dream about it.
I would trade Kerley and a 5th or 6th for him in a heartbeat. I like Kerley a lot, but Harvin is an elite talent. I dont think we can trade away McKnight because we dont have great depth as is.
I love Mcknight's potential but it's just that..potential. If you were unload him w/ Kerely the Jets RB group would be: 1. Greene 2. Harvin(Situationally) 3. Powell(Cimini thought he flashed at mini camp) 4. Gannaway Could you live with that?
This is very true, I forgot how high they were on Harvin coming into the draft. I even read that they were looking to trade back into the first and grab Harvin too with a future 2nd... Like Tanny says “leave no stone unturned”, Im sure they’ll make a phone call and see what it might take.
If Holmes doesn't have a great season it will be impossible to unload him in a trade next year and the Jets will be stuck with a big cap hit there. This is the perfect opportunity to unload him without getting less talented at WR. The guy quit on the team last year. First in the meeting rooms and then on the field. He should never set foot on the field for the Jets again. The cap hit just makes this a no-brainer if the Vikings are willing to take the headache off our hands. The headache arriving can't be worse than a quitter with a huge cap number for 2012 and 2013.
Eh, that would be hard to live with. Powell is a HUGE unknown, but I do like Ganaway as a great fit for this system. I think the Vikings would be more interested in a WR though because their WR core is one of the worst in football, and losing Harvin would really make it terrible (which doesnt help a developing young QB).
This would actually make sense mostly from a cap perspective. If we swapped the two, our WR core would be VERY young and lack experience and chemistry. It would make sense for Minny though because they can handle the cap number and need another WR in return. This would allow us to pay Revis while still not being strapped to the cap, but once again my only worry would be lack of experience and chemistry... Maybe we bring back Braylon in this scenario.
My scenario gives them Mcknight & Kerely.( Situational RB & Slot receiver). Plus a late round pick. Those 2 pieces are a start to replacing Harvin's role.
