No matter what the Pats do they are praised. If they overspend in FA they are praised while others are criticized, no matter what they do in the draft they are praised. They haven't had a good draft in at least 3-4 years yet every year they keep telling us how great of a draft they have.
if you've won the superbowl in recent years, writers often give you the benefit of the doubt. It's called an easy story. Same goes for teams that haven't won one in over 30 years. It's also an easy target. At the end of the day we are at the mercy of sports writers who other than being ego maniacs really don't know much more football than the average fan does.
Here is what I see for Gholston as a rookie: He is going to get some plays in the 3-4 and be a pass rusher in passing downs when we line up 4-3. I think he has enough motor for that. He is going to blow by a lot of LTs in this league. And every time he is near the line of scrimmage the QB will audible. That is good enough for me.
Hopefully, this finally catches up with them. If their draft picks this year don't pan out, they're going to have a pretty bad defense. They have 2 good d-linemen (Warren and Wilfork), but their LBs are aging (honestly, besides Thomas, is anyone from last year's squad there going to be playing in 2 years?), their secondary is new (only player there is that jerk, Harrison, who's getting old) and they got by last year on just playing the pass all game because their offense would give them large leads. It's entirely possible that they have an epic collapse on defense if their picks don't pan out. Take Tom Brady away (say, on a Gholston sack in week 2), and we could be looking at a 4-12 team. Of course, if Mayo, Crable and others pan out, they could be set for a while. But given how poorly they've drafted recently, my guess is that they'll have a suspect defense that teams will feast on. Expect some 35-31 games.
Lets beat Buffalo on a consistent basis before we start talking about keeping pace or overtaking New England. Both of these things a possible this year, but lets wait and see.
On the field they deserve every benefit of the doubt but they haven't had a good draft since about 2004 so they shouldn't keep getting the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the draft and it's not like we are Miami or Buffalo and haven't made the playoffs in 7-9 years. We have had some good teams, have been one of the better teams in the AFC this decade. I don't care what "experts" really say as it will all be determined by how these guys perform on the field but it can irritate at times when you are criticized or praise based on a reputation from 15-20 years ago.
Pats reached for Mayo and overall i think they had an average draft at best... I hate those Douchebagz lol
