    lol

That's a huge part of the problem with trading up. Every player has a chance of being great. They also have a chance of busting. You give up chances on several players for the chance on one.

(stating the obvious) even if you get the player you expected, keep playing the trade up game and your overall lack of roster talent and depth is eventually going to show.

trading up would be a mistake

i'd rather have beckham/barr/cooks, ASJ/latimer, and jaylen watkins/landry over just watkins

I'm not advocating trading up. I'm usually against it. But if you can get an elite talent at a reasonable price then I'd do it. Watkins is elite.

Definitely. I'm certain that Idzik won't get fleeced, or even trade up if he and his FO staff weren't sold on the talent. God, is it 8PM yet?

Just curious about what people think here:

Are most people against the idea of trading up ANYWHERE? Or just in the first? Because I don't see any way we actually draft 12 players and have 12 rookies on the roster by opening day (not including a possible UDFA surprise).

I get that we have depth to fill, but the math just doesn't work...

Those who say the Jets are trading up have yet to say why or for whom. Absent that kind of information this speculation is useless.

Isn't that the most important part of the deal? It doesn't matter if you can trade up from the #15 spot to the #2 spot and only give up a 3rd round pick if you are making that move to pick a Ryan Leaf type.
You can't say they are distinctly different parts of the transaction because when they make the move they know who the target is. It is not, we are going to trade a 1st and 3rd to move up ten spots and then decide who to pick, it is, we are trading our 1st and 3rd to move up and take Joe Smitty.

I'm a little hesitant of the Jets trading up if it won't be for an elite player, but if they can somehow trade up and keep their first for this year at the same time, that would be the best case scenario. Even if it means giving up their first next year. This draft class is loaded.

#Jets are doing a lot of groundwork for QBs that may land in the first round or early in the 2nd round. Watch for Carr, watch for Garoppolo

No way trading up makes any sense. NO WAY. Giving up a 3rd and 2 4ths to move up to 11 for 1 receiver of Beckham's ilk versus another of Cooks, Lee's, etc, etc? Not the way to build a team through the draft I doubt highly it happens

i think the best value is staying put at 18, and taking the BPA.
a good CB, WR, Olineman, S or LB will be there.

then trade up to the top of the 2nd round, and take a guy who would be a 1st rounder most other drafts.
Jordan Matthews and ASJ come to mind, if they aren't already off the board.
that costs WAY less than moving to top of 1st round.

You and I are in the minority on this, but if 1) You accept the premise that this is the deepest class in a decade, and 2) you trust this staff enough to find the occasional goddamn (big) snack, then I'd rather spend a pick or two from next year to get a bigger slice of the pie this year.

Nothing crazy. Not next year's 1st. But next year's second or third, for the right talent, not only shouldn't be off the table, but should be in the forefront of any trade thinking.

If we figured out a way to end up with Dennard, Jordan Matthews, ASJ, Cyril Richardson, and Deone Bucannon by the end of Friday, I wouldn't give a shit what it cost us.
