Not a single team is going to try to sign Robbie if they also have to give up picks to the jets. So the jets could tag him but that will ultimately end in the jets paying him 18 for the season, which they don’t want to do, or withdrawing the tag and letting him walk.
I disagree. It likely will not be two #1s or even one #1 but it could be a #2 or a high #3. Yes I can envision a team out there paying that for Robby.
The tag also gives the Jets some control of where he goes IF they don't believe he's worth the price he's asking for. Can you imagine if they just let him walk away and he signs with Buffalo teams his speed with Allen's arm? *shivers* The Jets need to be smart here.
You wouldn't mind seeing him in Buffalo playing with Allen? That could happen if you let him waltz out the door.
You're right. That's just over 16.1 million a year. If we franchise Robbie he would make more than Hopkins next year. Makes even less since. Now if we resign him to the 13-15 million he wants he will make slightly less but he is still in the realm of wr1 money especially at 15. He isn't a wr1, shouldn't be paid like one. Give him 10-12 or let him walk.
$10-$12 million is what his market should be. If no one is willing to pay him more then he should just come back to the Jets.
Actually on a year to year basis, Hopkins base salary is around 13M a year. He gets signing bonuses and such to increase the value. The true indicator is guaranteed money as earlier indicated and when that payout is structured. His BASE might be 7 or 8M a year, but certain escalators could get him to 12M for that certain year. That usually results in team success. Its all about the guaranteed money and how that's structured. Everyone here seems to make it as easy as 16M a year which makes for easy conversation but it gets much tricker then that.
He has never said how much he wants though, presumption is not fact and you were not talking about the franchise tag either, only one person one here would do that so again it is quite irrelevant but if we did he would get paid more for one season and not a 5 year cap weight. Plus do you not expect Hopkins to start looking for more as he enters the last two years of his contract, that is the normal time to start negotiations, Hopkins on 2017 money as we enter 2020.
It has come out that the Jets offer 10 per year and he said no so we went back and have been trying more. It has also come out his agent is looking for 13-15 million. Again he's not worth it. Some people here are ok with franchising for 18.4 per... against not worth it. If we can get him under 12 then ok. Anything over he can move along.
I get the contracts are more lucrative. The cap hit is the part that matter in this. If his hit is about 12 per or under I say go for it. Anything over and I say we move on. As far as the bonus and such those can be worked around. The cap hit is what matters as we need all the space we can get right now.
yeah the guaranteed money is huge for me in this scenario, if he reaches his ceiling ... he could become a high end #2 and an integral part of the offense. Patriots used a corner and a safety to take him out of the game, thats respect in my eyes. I want him back, but of course money talks, I don't think the market is as hot as everyone makes it out to be. Him getting 14m+, I just can't see it with this draft. 15+ receivers with top 2 round grades.
I agree. I think he could be an amazing #2. With the right deal we could be set for a while. But with all our needs I don't want a 14 million cap hit for a #2. I have been all for having Anderson back as long as it on a good deal. If we can get the cap hit to 10-12 million it would be way better. Save some space so we can resign Adams and Darnold.
no, not clear enough because TRY is still alegit word since htere are two sides to the negotiation. Heres an example of a try. Jets talk to Robby and offer 15 MM per year 35 guaranteed ( just throwing numbers out)....then the Titans call Robby and offer 17 MM per year 52 guaranteed....Robby signs with Titans....we tried
Yes, of course, his agent is looking for 13-15m doesn't mean that anybody will pay it or us or the fact that he may sign on again for 11 or 12m. I would like you to name these people okay with franchising him. I can name you WarriorRB28 and JohnathanVilma as the only two who have actively spoke out loud that I am aware of and both for different reasons. As a supporter of the Jets who thinks Robby will only get better as we improve the OL I would be willing to give him 12m, that is sensible but only if Gase is going to play the kind of football that will enable Robby to deliver the promise he brings or it is pointless signing him for even 8-10m Gase and the last idiot both ignored him until they were desperate, especially Bates. It is okay saying he isn't a number 1 WR but then he probably has been here and that is the worst part of all, the WR team and the way we use them has been woeful through the last three OC's.
I agree with most you say but as I listed the other day there are WR on bad teams that have no o line and bad qb play that have shown more than robbie. Gase has had wr break 1000 yards. So did the OC before Bates. Anderson hasn't and may never. I think he will win there is another wr to take pressure off him. But true #1 can do that on their own. Pay him wr2 pay and I'm in. If not send him down the road.
What kind of WR's are these possession receivers that get a lot of targets are they like Robby who thrives on a ball over the top? That is the thing isn't hit, hit him as hard as like for not getting a 1000 yards but really you know he has been damned unlucky not to do it and this is where your argument over it falls flat. No other WR has had Petty, Siemian, Falk, McCown 2nd time around, Fitzpatrick 2nd time around, possibly even Geno Smith and if you even want to be harsh Darnold himself throwing a ball deep for them to catch. The man fell 59 yards short with Mccown getting injured, only a fool would believe he wouldn't have made those yards and many more if Mccown wasn't injured in the final 4 games of that season, Bates was a fool who ignored him in plenty of games and then It is like the truth of that situation doesn't penetrate through some peoples skulls? Gase is a massive hindrance to a WR like Robby, he is to busy playing for 7-yard passes. You also keep saying a true number one, I would like you to quote a post where I said he was one? Again I will reiterate I am only here defending him from being called shit and people being economical with the facts to suit their own he can fuck off agenda. Also again, I am only a fan because I think he is an exciting player and can do things that nobody else on our squad can do, I have no doubt somebody else out there can do similar stuff, some of them cheaper, maybe that is the difference between your hardboiled business-orientated football and being a football fan in the UK, basic loyalty to a player who has come in and achieved a decent level, which again really is only made better by the fact he was an UDFA, as opposed to us fucking throwing all our draft picks into the garbage bin every year on twats that have never tried a lick or have just not even been good enough to make the team. Still get him out of the team he is fucking shit. Ps not all of that is related to your posts but rants go like that sometimes
Hopkins had Fitz after we did. And still out up over 1200, the year after he had Hoyer... still over 1200. Marshall and Decker over 1000 the same year with Fitz. Tyler Boyd was over 1000 with absolute garbage the whole year at qb. Mike Evans did it with a qb that is just as like to throw and interception than a completion. QB and OLine cannot be an excuse.
Okay, which Fitz did Hopkins get? The Fitz that broke all the Jets QB records and put Marshall on the record books or the other one that was garbage? Robby got the shit one and that is all that matters in this scenario. Also, I couldn't give two fucks about any other QB/WR combo that you name, they don't play for the Jets and nobody is as bad as the QB's I listed earlier, you know it, I know it and so does anybody that possess a pair of eyes or even one eye for that matter. Okay then we will turn this around, why is Darnold not bringing home the bacon? Now tell me a reason that doesn't mention the OL as you know it can't be an excuse or Gase for that matter. Btw is there a point to this incessant back and forth? Because that last post was poor, you know Fitz has two cycles, the one that throws multi TDs and 400-yard games and then the other that couldn't hit a barn door, it really is a poor attempt and the first one that felt a little like being trolled.
