I wouldn't be heartbroken if we didn't brought him back, but I wouldn't be upset if we did either. He is okay receiver, fast as hell which you need to have a good offense, but that's about it IMO. He doesn't offer enough to get 12-13M a year, I'd pay him 10M max.. And have you guys seen the "training videos" he sometimes posts on his IG? If I didn't know I would never guess he's a professional athlete seeing those..
Of course yes. IF Robby is being unreasonable that's what the franchise tag is for. Did the Jets "try" to sign some of the terrible players they've had no problem at all paying a ton of money in recent years like Trumaine Johnson? No they sealed the deal. Why now with Robby the top/hottest free agent at his position in 2020 are they "trying"? Either they want him back or they don't don't give me some half baked oh yeah we gave it the ol' college try but it didn't work out goodbye excuse.
Maybe it has to do with he's not worth 15 million much less the over 18 he would get on the tag. Especially since he can be replaced by over 25 of the prospects in this draft? He's not a wr1 and we shouldn't pay him as such.
With the Jets rich history of drafting players you trust them to hit on Robby's replacement? I don't. And the tag is to make sure we don't lose him get nothing in return. He's the top UFA some team out there wants him enough they'll pay up.
Name one team that is consistently in the playoffs that paid a wr that never hit 1000 yards over 12 million a year. They don't exist. And for a reason. He isn't worth it. You don't pay mediocre players superstar money and hope to contend.
The Eagles have been rumored to want Robby for a while now. Just one team. If Douglas loses Robby for nothing in return he's a rank amateur. Even Bradway who botched the 2003 offseason got a #1 pick in return for Coles. I think Robby has more upside, speed than Coles had.
Fact is Robbie should have been resigned last year for cheap. But Douglas had nothing to do with it. He got handed this shit show after most of this was done and had to scramble to get things in place. He didn't have an offseason to eva and resign. But over spending now and screwing next year and the year after by paying Robbie like he's DeAndre Hopkins just isn't a good move. If the eagles want to pay him 14+ million a year then they can be wondering why the didn't fix the other holes for the next 2-3 years. They have plenty of contracts coming up as well. As I've said I would offer 12/year only because of his connection with Darnold. Honestly that is overpaying. But I don't pay him superstar money.
hmmm your reasoning makes no sense to me...."trying" is a perfectly reasonable word to use....but its all good dude
Yes. You can not lose Robby Anderson for nothing and still consider yourself a good GM. I loved both Coles and Moss. But Robby Anderson is special and made for Primetime. People don't realize just how good he is and how behind a QB with pass protection due to an O-Line just how great he'll become.
DeAndre Hopkins with Fitzpatrick, Hoyer and revolving door at Qb plus bad oline over 1000 yards 2014-2016 Tyler Boyd with really bad qbs and o-line 2019 over 1000 yards DJ Moore with a line that gave up more sacks and terrible qb play in 2019 over a 1000 yards. Robbie Anderson has no excuse. He is NOT a superstar and should NOT be paid like one. If you can get him for wr2 money you do. If no HIT THE ROAD JACK.
The most receptions by Anderson in one season was 63 in 2017, where he ranked 24th in the league for WRs. Does this type of production demand big money?
I think if I was the Joe Douglas, I would let Robby walk, use the money to sign 2 top OL and a CB in Free Agency. Then use the #11 overall pick on a WR or another OL. The Jets weapons are not that bad, minus Robby. You build your offensive line to protect Sam and allow a much stronger run blocking scheme for Bell. Sam has weapons still with Crowder, Herndon, Griffin, Bell, a FA WR and a draft pick WR. However, if Douglas loves the chemistry between Robby and Sam that much, he can re-sign him and just use the #11 pick on OL. It truly is a 50/50 situation to me, and with the money going up with the lack of WR available, I think I am slightly leaning towards letting Robby go.
Hopkins signed a massive $81 million contract extension in August 2017. The five-year deal included $49 million in guaranteed money. More exaggeration over truth.
It's truly amazing how much detail gets omitted from these discussions. Just to make someone's side of the argument sound "good"
Do or do not there is no try. Try is just some half baked way of putting on a show for lame brains that believe anything they read in the media. I'll explain my stance on this one last time. The Jets can spend their money however they want on whoever they want if they don't believe Robby Anderson is worth the price that's fine I don't agree with that I think he is worth it but it's their cash. BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should this player be allowed to walk out the door, Jets get nothing in return. Robby Anderson is a very valuable asset here in 2020 I think he's the top UFA WR available JMO. I read the Bengals plan to use the tag on AJ Green he didn't play at all in 2019 and he missed a good part of 2018. Why shouldn't the Jets protect their asset? The franchise tag does not stop the Jets from working out a more team friendly long term deal down the line OR them working out a trade with another team. They are $49 million under the cap before any cuts, they have no other major free agents to re-sign so there is absolutely NO REASON AT ALL for the Jets to lose this player, get nothing in return. A properly run organization either re-signs this player or makes sure they get a quality pick(s) in return if they don't. Is that clear enough for you?
