The reason Pennington was checking down to HBs and throwing 7-yard routes all the time was because that was what Paul Hackett's/Herman Edwards' offense was asking him to do.

When he was playing scared, he was forcing the ball down the field and throwing picks and costing the Jets games(with some gracious help from some of the worst defenses in the league). Hackett and Herm put together an passing game that emphasized minimum risk due to short throws and Pennington was the best QB for that system. No one was running deep routes for him with the consistency to be a serious target downfield. Even Santana Moss was used mostly as an underneath WR.

Say what you want about his arm strength - it was always less than what you would want from a franchise QB - and yes, the injuries took their toll on his abilities. They are all decent points to make when discussing/analyzing a QB's performance. But saying he was checking down and making short passes because he was scared is just plain wrong.

    Holy shit.

Two awful opinions about Chad playing scared and him being able to get us a ring in either of mark's playoff years.

    Cut the shit.

Chad was a good, not great QB who was tough but couldn't stay healthy. He may never have been a SB winning QB but we have to respect his time as a jet.

And there is no bigger Sanchez fan on this board than me. He's My Quarterback.

    +1

How hard is it to respect how much he loved football and being a jet, some of the great moments we all witnessed because of him without being able to see his downside as well?

Never got us a superbowl ring but I have recently found myself wondering what Chad could have done if his GM made his offensive line a priority. He could have done some damage with last years offense even after his first shoulder surgery.

    Chad Fans. Heh.

They cried under their pillows when Chad went to Miami. But they never admitted it.

Me, I was ecstatic to see him go.

    Chad Fans. Still at it.
