Exactly. People need to realize that it's called a NEGOTIATION not "you accept what we offer you on the first try. Just because you turn down an offer doesn't mean you're not willing to work something out nor that you're not a team player. The team knows damn well that what they are offering isn't the most they can actually afford to pay Chad and help their cap situation at the same time. They also know that there's no reason to give Chad their best offer right away either.
alot of these plays were loyal to herm edwards. Chad was had man love for herm i think if herm was still here he would of took it. dont get my wrong i like mangini here
Check out this story from PFT (Pro Football Talk) SOME JETS WANT TO JETTISON CHAD If the Two Utes in New York ultimately choose to dump Chad Pennington, they'll apparently have some support in the locker room. Per Mark Cannizaro of The New York Post, two members of the team's offense believe that the team shot chop Chad from the roster. "I think we should release him; he's too injury-prone," one player said. "He's like an egg back there," said another player. "I mean, look at the ways he's gotten hurt. He hasn't even been hit that hard. The injuries have come from awkward hits and falls. I think we should just cut him." Ouch. The fact that two members of the offense would speak out on an off-the-record basis (those cowards!) tells us even more about Pennington the leader than it does about Pennington the egg-shaped man who constantly falls from his seat on top of a wall. If there was genuine love for Chad in the locker room, these two guys would be supporting their quarterback. At a minimum, they'd be keeping their mouths shut. The fact that they're talking makes us wonder about the atmosphere that arose within the organization after Pennington went down (again) last year. Maybe coach Herm Edwards subtly put out attitude and/or vibrations that Chad is too injury prone, in order to deflect criticism for the coach's failure to shut Pennington down (as he should have) when it was known to the team in 2004 that he had a torn rotator cuff. Regardless, the fact that two members of the offense have detached emotionally from their supposed field general tells us all we need to know. It truly is time for Pennington to go.
I'm surprised that one of the biggest cap hits next year, Dewayne, has not been approach to restructure. Or, at least, we haven't heard anything about it. Seems to me that will have to be done eventually.
Whoops.... sorry, I didn't think it would be in another thread..... I try not to duplicate, should have looked first. I don't think there will be any negotiating with Chad. I think they really just want to cut him, and get rid of his contract for the long term. If Penny's team mates think he's too fragile, a new regime, who has no "loyalty connection" to him would be very inclined to just dump him, unless he was willing to stay darn near for free. These guys talked about making some "hard decisions", well this is one of them.
I believe that he has a 6.7 mil hit for next year. He does has youth on his side which is why the FO is target the elders first. I do think that they will eventually get around to Drob and Ellis but they are down on the list.
I think we should just cut him, let him take his bonus, and sign him to a small contract that gives him a chance to compete for the starting spot. From his point of view, I can't understand why he would want to just give up that money. Honor his contract, cut him, and resign him cheap. He gets the money he is owed, we don't have his big contract on our cap, and if he does well, it works out for everyone.
