This is what happens when we have the invisible man rushing the Qb from both DE positions.

Well early in the game SE put some pressure on several plays. Who knows how much the heat & humidity affected us. Remember they practice in it every day. New week coming up. Last week iis in the W column so why complain. Look up Newsday & see BF quote about our win

A win is a win but with that said the De's still have to step it up.

Having a Qb who can throw a rope like the one Farve threw to Cotchery yesterday can give you nothing but hope. This man has not seen a pass like this from a Jet Qb in almost 40 years! It is the first one I have seen that has not been a Namath Highlight and im 40!

It's been said thousands of times on here but I'll say it again. THE JOB OF A 3-4 DE IS NOT TO SACK THE QB.

We had 4 sacks, numerous pressures and sent Pennington home with a bloody mouth and dilated pupils. There was plenty of pressure.

They gave up less than 3 yards per carry to Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown running behind a line built to run the ball.

The score has NOTHING to do with how much better you play than your opponent. For three and a half quarters, we were the dominant team. We missed a field goal, missed an extra point opportunity, and played very conservatively down the stretch and still won a division game on the road. When you are on the road and playing within the division on opening day, you just want to find a way to steal the game. (Particularly in a rivalry game like the Jets-Dolphins) The jets lead 20-7 late in the game and held on to win. There really isn't that much to complain about. Chill out and try to enjoy the wins.

What are they supposed to do on third and ten?

Occupy linemen to allow the LB's to get pressure. Pushing the o-line backwards is a plus.

What part of 4 sacks, numerous pressures and the opposing QB going home with a bloody mouth and dazed is not good enough for you?

I want our Defensive line to Push the Oline backwards and put some pressure on the Qb. What part of you can't give the Colts, Steelers, Jaguars or any other playoff-Sb caliber teams Qb time to throw or they will make you pay. We escaped yesterday. The odds are against us with better teams. Im happy we won but we beat the Dolphins. I keep that in it's proper perspective.

The conservatism in the second half almost lost the game.

The score has everything to do with how we played. Had that last Chad pass fell into two other hands, we'd all be talking about the "Same Old Jets" today.

I'm ecstatic that we won, and that we looked like a vastly improved team. It's not the talent I'm worried about. We have truckloads of talent.

Our problem is coaching. If you want to win against playoff teams you have to play like one. That "bend but don't break" D won't hack it against good teams.

I'm happy about yesterday, and I'm enjoying it while it lasts. However, I'm not going to sit back and rest on what could easily have been a disaster, and will be against teams that will win more than 6 games this year.

Miami in September is one of the most physically difficult places to play -- that is why Miami's record at home in September is crazy...teams get worn out. First game of the season , first time playing all out 4 quarters, guys get tired....you expect it to happen and I thought they played incredible...no 10 yard run given up, no bombs, no big plays, 4 sacks, constant pressure, hits for loss....i am happy with that for game 1.....usually we see this around game 11 when we are out of it.

The Jets played that way by design, I don't think they were trying to get pressure and failed. Phil Simms was even advocating no pressure on Chad at the end, to play coverage and make him beat them on the last two plays. I didn't agree with that but it worked, I always favor pressuring the QB.

I agree, as well as with Alio's point that it was more the O's mistakes here and there and some questionable playcalling that made it as close as it was.

After all Miami could not establish a running game and scored its first points off great field position. The last TD was against a too porous prevent D, but that is the risk you run trying to run out the clock.

In fact I am not going to make too much of it since the CS may have felt the D was tired, and it may have been the right move.

you have to think part of the shell was due to with favre not being sure about the offense yet and the CS not wanting to take chances....Jones was running well and they should have been able to generate more first downs...i see this all getting better as favre leanrs more

The DE's job is not to get pressure on the QB in a 3-4 defense. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. It's actually quite simple.

    Just some facts.

The Jets D allowed 1 drive over 60 yards.

After the 1st Miami TD, the Jets D held Miami to drives of -1yd, -3yds, -11 yds, 16 yds, 17 yds, and 56 yds.

The last 2 drives were 53 yds..resulting in a TD..and 43 yds, resulting in an INT

The Jets D had 4 sacks, 6 hits on Chad, 7 tackles for losses.
