He also had more completions. He also had more attempts. He also played in more games. He also lost more games. I never said Chad can't throw it over 5 yards. He can throw it anywhere he likes. Just really slowly and loftily. What is a 2nd day rookie?
As my friend said, he lost the starting job to a second year guy with no experience. Seriously guy enough with this Pennington shit.
Weak. Same team in 2004, except Chad had started to get the injury bug by then and was producing less. Should've gone to the AFC Championship, and it wasn't Chad's fault for the two missed kicks, but it's all moot. Him putting us in a position to win 4 years ago doesn't mean he's a top 10 QB right now.
You are right, he is not a top 10 QB right now. He can be a top 10 QB with the caveats I mentioned in the initial post.
Pennington is an excellent game manager in a system that features the running backs and the play action pass. The Dan Henning offense is a perfect example of an offense that Chad can succeed in. With that said, Chad is NOT a top 10 QB. Top 15? Maybe. Top 20? Definitely. Top 10? No.
need we say that Chad finished 2nd in MVP voting this season? oh yea there is a thread on that. Lean times ahead...
I would take CP over BF. BF is 40 years old with a sore shoulder. He through 22 INT. We pay him 12 mil a year. If you look at his last 3 year production with GB and the Jets; he petered out in the final games. Tired ARM SYNDROME... its not going to get better next year ... the Jets would be smart to cut their losses with BF ...LET HIM GO!!!! Tangini did not like CP that's why we let him go.
Well, let's see. Clearly better: Peyton Manning, Brees, Romo (though those December collapses are beginning to make me wonder), Rivers. Brady, obviously, if he counts. Probably better: Warner, McNabb (both are clearly better if you look at careers, but if we're looking at right now it's a little less clear). Eli Manning never had great numbers, but it's hard to imagine Pennington having a run like he did through the playoffs last year. Not sure what to think about Roethlisberger. Jake Delhomme? Maybe. I am not very impressed with Cutler, but maybe I should be. So, that puts CP in the fringes of the top 10. Maybe there are others who belong ahead of him, but I am not sure who. I think Ryan and Flacco are going to be stars if they stay healthy, but I don't think they are better than Pennington right now. Of course if you weighed injuries heavily, that would knock CP way down in the standings. This is is second full season in 8 years. I hope the Ravens don't kill him on Sunday.
I would have said for sure he is a top 10 QB but then I read your post. I still think he is but you bring me down to earth a little more  Yes tho he is a top 10 QB.
How are you calculating? Is this just personal preference? Pennington is the #2 rated QB in the league. He is #1 in completion % and top 10 in yards as well. So how do all these other QBs come out ahead of him in your mind?
The answer to this question will completely depend on who you ask. What they're taking into consideration, what they value at the QB position, and bias. You say you measure a QB on his leadership, intelligence, and game management? Then he's definately top 10. If you want to base your argument on this season alone then you have to consider him. You a Dolphins fan? Yes he's top 10. You measure a QB by his arm streangth, ability to take over games, and win your fantasy league? No, he's not even top 20. If you want to consider carreer bodies of work then he's probably not top 10. If you are a Jet fan, you'd rather have Jeff Garcia.
If you had to start a team right now and the first pick was a Qb Pennington would be below. P Manning E Manning Drew Brees Donovan Mcnabb Phillip Rivers Jay Cutler Matt Ryan Tom Brady-with a broken Leg Ben Rothlisberger Curt Warner Jake Delohme Carson Palmer-Bengals screwed him up Matt Schabb Kerry Collins Tony Romo All of the above Qb's can throw the ball when the game is no the line better than Chad. The Fairy Tale season comes to an end on Sunday.
I still believe Favre gave us the best possible chance of winning a suberbowl at least he shakes things up a bit for us. Obviously it didn't work out. Say we had Pennington as our QB this year, we win the easy games we should have won and go to the playoffs. Then what? We'll probably lose just like every year he has taken us to the playoffs and we lose in the 1st or 2nd round. We could never get to the Superbowl with Chad. Hes never gonna be the guy that leads the team to a come back win. Teams are either gonna shut him down or just plain outscore him. Making it to the first round of the playoffs and losing is not much better then not going to the playoffs at all.
Good question. Clearly I am not thinking of the whole career, or Favre would probably be at the top of the list. Nor am I thinking just of this year, or Roethlisberger probably wouldn't be in the running. I guess I am trying to think of right now without letting my thinking be totally dominated by current ratings. I yield to no one in my admiration for statistics. Unlike fans, they are objective. They don't tell the whole story, but they tell us more than the labels like "gunslinger" or "game manager" that most of us use in lieu of actual thought. But what if the statistics tell us different things? If you'd asked this question a year ago, Pennington wouldn't be in the top 30, and Favre would probably be in the top 5 (even leaving the rest of his career out of account). Yes, Pennington was #2 in the ratings this year, ahead of Peyton Manning among others. Do you think he's better than Peyton? I don't. Also, like JHTJ said, so much depends on circumstances and what you think is important. I am not sure there is a quarterback in football that could have done more for the Dolphins than Pennington did this year. It was, everyone agreed, like having an extra coach on the roster -- a coach that complimented the staff, rather than competing with it. So, if the criteria is "best quarterback for a 1-15 team trying to recover from absolute humiliation" CP might be #1. Like all Phins fans, I'll never forget what he did for us this year. Well, again, you're picking a couple of things and focusing on them. Even then, it's not entirely clear if you're being consistent. When you say "starting a team", do you mean an expansion team, or an imaginary team from scratch that you're creating to win an SB this year with? If it's the former, I sure don't want Kurt Warner or Kerry Collins over Pennington. I do want Matt Ryan, though. But if I have to win this year, I'll take Pennington over Ryan and a few others in your list. And "Brady with a broken leg"? What if he never comes back? As for "throw the ball better when the game is on the line", yeah, most of those guys have stronger arms than Pennington, whether it's in the last two minutes of the game or the first 58. But I've been pretty damn pleased with how he's played with the game on the line this year, thanks -- including last Sunday. How happy were you? Will it all come to an end against the Ravens? Yeah, probably. We have matchup problems all over the field against that team. But it's still been a hell of a ride.
I would take him over plenty of those guys. I'd easliy take him over Cutler, Rothlisberger, Warner, Collins, Eli and McNabb. QBs performance is often very dependent on their supporting cast and like I said when I started the thread if you give CP certain things, he will give you top 10 numbers...and he did.
