The way I look at all of this is that Joe Pa did what he did and should have done more, but the thing is he should not be getting hounded as much as he is now. Yes he turned the other check, and yes actions should be taken, but he doesn't deserve this much when, which makes me even more sad, is that he is being treated like the man who sexually abused these children. If people want to call someone disgusting call the man who is molesting children that. Joe Pa is not a bad guy; just a man who should have taken a better approach on the situation.

This is one of the most intelligent posts on this topic, in my opinion you are spot on.

You said they sit out, that is punishment, him getting canned however is appropriate, and the kids thankfully didn't have to make a choice like that

It is the Seinfeld argument on a much larger scale with much more heinous crimes committed, and sadly you have to realize that Joe Pa was Penn State university, and the downfall of a legend obviously has blinded people close to the situation

I get the outrage at Paterno, but really, what football coach isn't a raging asshole? It's kind of like a requirement for the job in the first place.

Just for the record Penn State lied when it said that Sandusky has been banned from campus. The guy had been given a position as a prof. From the sporting news:

The university's online directory listed Sandusky, whom PSU officials said banned from campus over the weekend — as an assistant professor emeritus of physical education in the Lasch building.

The grand jury investigating Sandusky found that he was given the office, a parking pass and other amenities as part of his 1999 retirement package.

#Joe Paternity tests will prove he his NOT your real grandfather/father, so stop treating him like one and realize he fucked up, big time.

Anyone else find it suspicious that Sandusky retired and never worked in football again despite being the architect of those great defenses?

Great job by Penn State to get rid of Paterno. I applaud them.

This is ridiculous...turning the other cheek is almost as horrible as the actual crime. He had a duty as a human being to see to it that Sandusky never stepped foot on the campus again and that the cops caught this fucker. Is he being vilified too harshly? Yes...but he deserved to be fired and the rioting b/c of that is a message from the student body that the failure to take necessary actions to stop a pedophile is less than football. I normally don't get this worked up over things like this but I'm extremely disgusted.

Jesus...nothing would surprise me at this point, but I really, really hope this is speculation and not true. That's like some "secret society" type shit. That would be horrible.

As greenberg said on Mike and Mike this morning

At the end of "a few good men" the two defendants were dishonorably discharged. One of the defendants looked at the other and said "but we did nothing wrong" the other replied "yes we did, failed to protect those that could not protect themselves"

No JoePa did not have anything to do with the horrible acts but he has a moral obligation to protect those that cannot protect themselves. AS a person of power JoePa should not have accepted the AD sweeping the situation under the rug he should have followed up with athorities. So should have the other coach who told him in the first place.

I find the objections that Paterno is being treated too harshly incomprehensible. Even if you think he did enough back in 2002 and since then (which I absolutely do not), his statement yesterday that the Board shouldn't spend one minute talking about his status was a blatant attempt at intimidation. He thought he called the Board's bluff, when in fact the Board called his. If he had wanted to avoid this kind of treatment he should have resigned yesterday, saying he was trying to avoid being a distraction. It wouldn't have made his conduct any less morally reprehensible, but at least he might have avoided some of the vitriol he is now getting and so richly deserves.

As far as the behavior of the PSU students, I've spent my entire career around college students, so stupid behavior on their part isn't exactly a shock to me. Hopefully in the light of day they realize that they should go to class and keep their mouths shut.

Any seniors who choose not to play on Saturday obviously have the right to do so. They will reveal themselves to be fools, but that is a right all Americans have, and often exercise.
