I hope so, and then we can find a 3 or 4 year veteran solution for the other OF spot until Martinez is ready for call-up. Having Milledge and Gomez in the lineup next year and still expecting to chase after the World Series will be difficult, IMO.
Definitley agreed, even Gomez platooning with Chavez next year would be nice, while having another vet playing a corner outfield spot. '09 will be the year of the Gomez along with the opening of Citi Field.
I must admit, Carlos Gomez is a fast mother f*cker. My dad was watching the game, being that he is the Mets fan in the house, and I happened to see the kid steal 2nd in the 8th, and he got their QUICK. He's not faster than Reyes, is he?
Actually, Gary Cohen said during the telecast that Reyes claims that Gomez is faster than he is. I also noticed that in that steal he seemed to get to second quicker than a normal human being would have. It's pretty remarkable that right now Beltran is the fourth fastest guy on the team.
Somebody explain something to me please. If the Mets know Carlos Beltran is going to be their center fielder for the next five years or so, how come Carlos Gomez was not playing right field in AAA ball, instead of center field?
Not to mention that you don't really need to "learn" to play RF. If you can play center you can play right. The only difference is learning the individual parks which you can't do in AAA anyway.
First of all, its ENTITLED, not In Title. Second of all, how come Pelfrey is exempt from having a bad run?
Sandy Kofax had an ERA aproaching 5 and had almost as many walks as strikeouts his first two seasons. He went 8-13 in 1960. Good pitchers aren't always instant awesome the 1st time they take the field.
That's not entirely true. RF's usually have a better arm then CF's, and the ball comes at you from a different angle so you do need to learn to read the ball off the bat to get good jumps.
this is well-known. Reyes and Gomez get talked about a lot, and Reyes admitted I think last year that Gomez would dust him. Minaya has also said it, and Gomez regularly beats Reyes when they race in the Dominican
I think the point is that it's easier to transition from center to the corners spots (from a defensive stand point) then it is the other way around.
