Jets fans have every right to be upset if Ellis took 500K more with an arch enemy after being so vocal about how he disliked Brady and the Pats and knowing how deep the rivalry is. Ellis could want more money but by joining the Pats after being a long time Jet, it comes with consequences and having bitter/angry fans turning their back on Ellis for wanting to join and ruin the Jets chance at a Super Bowl since 1969.
Taylor was begging for the Phins to offer anything to sign last year but in the end the Phins said no.....and he took the Jets minimal offer. That's why Taylor jumped at when the Phins offered him something this offseason. Ellis was at least offered something as a means to comeback, no matter how big or small it is.
I knew what you were saying i was just pointing out that even though we got rid of him before his age caught up that doesnt mean you sign with the Pats....I was pointing out players that have done that.
I can't understand the bitterness Jet fans are showing Ellis. He was a solid pro and good locker room guy for a decade. How can he be disloyal when he was LOWBALLED by his team. Fans ignore the fact gave $3MM to a guy who hasn't played the game in 2 years. Top dollar to a WR to is one puff from a years suspension, and top dollar to another CB. Hell, the Jets are going to pay a kid who has never seen an NFL game twice as much as he was offered. Offering him BOTTOM dollar was the insult. You'd probably have him if you had the Jets offered JUST a "few" hundred thousand more. As to what it means on the field from a Pats point of view. As a low cost situational player, who adds depth and experience to the DL, he's a decent pick up. He's just the kind of pick up BB loves to make. Not earth shattering or even news worthy, but the kind of guy who builds depth and experience to what was the youngest D in the league last season IMHO the best part of the deal for the Pats is the loss the Jets suffered with his leaving. I DIDN'T want him to resign with the Jets Now the Jets are going to HAVE to rely on Rookies and inexperienced back ups who haven't had a lot of playing time to get SIGNIFICANT snaps in a season that is short on preparation time. I know the Jets are very high Mo Wilkerson. There here many Pats fans who were very high on him too. He has all the physical ability to be a very good DLman in the league. But those same people who were so high on him also stated he was very raw and would require time to develop (at least in the Pats system) Personally I don't doubt that Wilkerson will be a fine addition and a fitting replacement for Ellis.....eventually. Here's the question., Is it really reasonable to expect him to be an upgrade THIS year? Are the Jets better on the DL THIS season, without Taylor and Ellis. Younger for sure, but its a DL totally lacking in experience. Add that to an aging set of LBs is it reasonable to think the Jets D is going to be as good as last season?
BTW- Here is a list of names Jet fans should keep an eye on. Ron Brace Myron Pryor Brandon Deadrick Kyle Love These are all Pat DLmen in their 2nd or 3rd year who got a lot of snaps last year. They all are currently on the PUP, and depending on how many of the Vets DLmen the Pats keep (Haynesworth, Anderson, Ellis) a few of these names will be available for the Jets to pick up. All of these guys have shown some promise, especially Brace who was coming on before he went on IR with an elbow injury. If you count these guys the Pats will likely keep only 8 DLmen and have 12 on the roster.
There is a decent chance that he doesn't have enough left to remain healthy and make a huge difference this year, but I can't help but think what a difference this guy made in the playoff game last year. Take away his two sacks (one on 3rd and goal) and replace that instead with actual pressure on Sanchez who was barely touched all game, and it's not hard to imagine a different outcome. Not saying that was the only difference separating the teams but if they can keep this guy healthy and fresh it will be a lot of fun to watch him play alongside Haynesworth and Wilfork.
I don't hate Shaun Ellis, I don't hold a grudge, and He'll always be one of my favorite Jets. But this hurts. I don't know what else to say. He could've went to any other team.. why the Pats?
I'm guessing there are a whole lot of sandy vaginas in this thread, right? Stuff along the lines of "how could he?" and "traitor!" and what-not, right? I was banging the table in another thread a week ago that if the Jets didn't offer Ellis a contract commensurate with his value to the team, he'd sign with another team, most likely the Patriots. We offered him the vet minimum. He's a Patriot. So be it. All this "he's earned enough money!" and "only an extra couple bucks?!" is ridiculous. Tannenbaum doesn't think Ellis is worth the couple extra bucks. I happen to think Tanny's wrong. I don't see why I should get all pissed off at Shaun Ellis for that.
We are and will be bitter about everything until we freaking win a SB or at least an AFC. Its been a brutal 25 years for me.. im bitter, angry, full of passion and hatred to the cheating Pats and and all their players, including Ellis and Woodhead. ats_suck:
This one stings. I appreciate everything he did for us throughout the years but to go and sign with the pats really makes this one hard to accept. So long 92 hope you are a non factor when we play you.
honestly, it's a game/business. shaun ellis doesn't care about any fans. all these players look out for themselves which is why ill never get that extreme off it. like i said about cotchery...i don't want anyone here who doesn't want to be here. i think it's a pussy move by both of them to "jet" out of here cause its not like both of them weren't wanted. ellis was offered a deal as was cotchery who had to be talked to by his coach & QB to stay. what's the vet minimum? $910k? i'd sure like to be employed just (6) months a year for almost a million dollars somewhere. the jets took care of shaun & his career. he's set for life financially, but if the pats offered him more money & playing time then that's his choice to leave & it's his legacy he's tarnishing. at this point in your career that's all your playing for besides a ring. so, good riddance both ellis & cotchery. if your not with us, then your against us. go jets.
I try to remember the business side, but unless they offered him a lot more cash than we did fuck him.
does anyone care about us? are we just being manipulated for $? so why do we care so much? are we all just suckers? I gave up on MLB in 94, would have done the same to NFL if there was no season this year... but I believe many NFL players do care about fans, and Ellis claimed to be one of them. :shit:
lol i called it. curious to see how much more money if any people are mad at a guy who busted his ass his whole career for basically taking more money and a better shot at a ring. after being offered the vet minimum by the people you think he owes so much loyalty to.
