I remember hearing about NE signing him a while ago actually. I'm surprised it actually happened. I don't expect him to do much anyway. If he has to start a game, I'm just going to laugh and watch that game, just to see how he does.
Yeah, it would have been almost impossible to do something like that on the spur of the moment, I would imagine. Wow, I have mixed feelings. I love Vinny and wish him the best, but I don't get it. Maybe Brady is more nicked up than they want to admit, he did get knocked around a good bit on Sunday. At least we're done playing them for the year, unless Vinny comes back and competes for the job in camp next season.

get back at us???? vinnie is done and old and if they are depending on him they are history. this is a BB desperation move
Agreed. How does this hurt the Jets???? Vinnie was washed up the minute he blew out his achilles tendon. He got worse and worse after that. This signing makes me happy as a Jet fan. First, it indicates something is amiss - Brady is hurt or something. Second, it smacks of desperation. It was desperation when the Jets signed him last year to QB a sinking ship. And look how that worked out. Now the 6-3 Pats are signing a 43 year-old QB. Good. Third, nothing could be better for a Jet fan then to see Vinnie actually starting a game for the Pats. What is his winning percentage since 2001? About .300 ???? I hope he is forced to play.
Geez, I appreciated what Vinny Did for the Jets in 98?.that being said, the guy is washed up already and he?s probably never going to see the field again.:shit:
Lets think logically here...if Belicheck wanted to get back at the Jets, he would wait until Curtis Martin Retired, then persuaded him to be a RB coach there...i have a STRONG feeling that Brady isnt walking around the locker room without feeling some pain right now....he got rocked quite a few times and i wouldnt doubt it that he could be sitting the bench fairly soon if he gets light up one more time the right way...Vinny would more then likely be the temporary solution
Vinny crosses the line I just got this off ESPN. Veteran quarterback Testaverde signs with PatriotsAssociated Press FOXBOROUGH, Mass (AP) -- Vinny Testaverde, who came out of retirement last season to help out the New York Jets, was signed on Tuesday by New England. Testaverde The move came after the Patriots lost two straight for the first time since 2002 as Tom Brady played two of his poorest games. Until signing Testaverde, New England had only one other quarterback on its roster, second-year pro Matt Cassel. Testaverde, who turned 43 Monday, was the first overall pick by Tampa Bay in the 1987 draft. He has played 19 NFL seasons and has 269 touchdown passes, eighth in NFL history, and is sixth with 45,252 yards passing. Brady has been listed as probable on the injury report every week for last season and this season, but hasn't missed a game. "I think he's been able to play in every game, so you'd have to ask him that," Belichick said of Brady, who only meets with reporters on Wednesdays. "There probably isn't a player in the league that plays every week that's 100 percent today. He's probably in that category." Asked if Brady has seemed hampered in his performance, Belichick said, "I think that Tom has had good days, good weeks of practice. I just think overall, we collectively as a team -- coaches, players, everybody -- we just have to do a better job. I think we all feel that way. That includes everybody." John Clayton: Quick Hits ClaytonThe Patriots' signing of 43-year-old quarterback Vinny Testaverde had nothing to do with injuries. If anything, the move was made for the mental health of quarterback Tom Brady. ? For more of John Clayton's Quick Hits, click here In Testaverde, joining his sixth NFL team, the Patriots get a player whose experience is at the opposite extreme of Cassel. The Patriots drafted Cassel in the seventh round in 2005 after he threw just 33 passes at Southern California as the backup to Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. As a rookie, he played only in the final regular-season game. This year, he appeared only in a 31-7 win at Minnesota, but didn't throw a pass. That was Brady's best game of the season. He threw four touchdown passes, completed 67.4 percent of his passes and had a 115.6 passer rating. In a win at Buffalo the previous week, he had a 112.4 rating and completed two-thirds of his passes for two touchdowns and no interceptions. But since the Minnesota game, Brady threw four interceptions and had a 34.0 rating in a 27-20 loss to Indianapolis, then had an 84.9 rating with one touchdown pass and one interception against the Jets. He's completed 59.2 percent of his passes this season for 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions, a few of which were tipped. Testaverde has played for Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Baltimore, Dallas and the Jets. He retired after playing with the Cowboys in 2004, but last season rejoined the Jets, for whom he played from 1998-2003, after starter Chad Pennington and backup Jay Fiedler were injured in the same game. Testaverde, who started four games for the Jets last season, became the first player in NFL history to throw at least one touchdown pass in 19 straight seasons. He completed 60 of 106 passes for 777 yards with one touchdown and six interceptions. He was subsequently replaced by Brooks Bollinger, who had started the season as the team's third stringer.
USA reports the following (Am I the only one to find the field replacement with a new synthetic surface funny???): FOXBOROUGH, Mass (AP) ? Vinny Testaverde, who came out of retirement last season to help out the New York Jets, was signed on Tuesday by New England. The 43-year-old quarterback, the first overall pick by Tampa Bay in the 1987 draft, has played 19 NFL seasons and has 269 touchdown passes, eighth in NFL history, and is sixth with 45,252 yards passing. He becomes the third quarterback on the Patriots roster, behind Tom Brady and second-year man Matt Cassel. The Patriots will be his sixth team. In addition to the Bucs, he has played for Cleveland, Baltimore, the Jets and Dallas. Meanhile, the Patriots began installing a synthetic field surface Tuesday to be used in time for their next home game Nov. 26 against Chicago. Heavy equipment scraped the grass and leveled the dirt beneath it in preparation for the installation of FieldTurf, which has become increasingly popular around the NFL. Gillette Stadium has had natural grass since it opened in 2002. It's the second time in less than three weeks that the field has been worked on following complaints from Patriots players and opponents about the lack of grass and surplus of sand up the middle of the field for the first three home games. The middle third of the field was resodded from goal line to goal line in time for the game against Indianapolis on Nov. 5. The Patriots played at Gillette Stadium again a week later against the New York Jets. New England lost both games. Heavy rains before last Sunday's game with the Jets and occasional drizzle during it left much of the center strip of the field muddy. Before that strip was replaced last month, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said, "We're committed to improve the field and considering all options short and long term." FieldTurf is a synthetic substance with long green fibers. It has sand for stability and small rubber chips for softness added to it. The Kraft family, owner of the Patriots and Gillette Stadium, opened the field as a multipurpose venue. The New England Revolution of MLS play their home games there. It also has been the site this summer of concerts by Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones. The Patriots have natural grass on their two practice fields and FieldTurf on their indoor practice field, all adjacent to Gillette Stadium. Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
