All bullshit aside Bodden would be a great addition to the secondary. There isn't much time for him on the field but in games against pass happy teams he's an upgrade over guys like Marquice Cole and Eric Smith manning the secondary.
agreed. he would be a definite upgrade in coverage over those two. i dont know a ton about his style of play. is he physical enough to play safety is really the question. and can he learn our defense fast enough.
My guess is Bodden was finding himself pushed down the depth chart and expressed the idea that he might be better off elsewhere. Give his salary NE is happy to see if somebody would claim him and his salary off waivers. As far as this business regarding Pats fans over-rating McCourty, it wasn't just Pats fans who liked him. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/01/06/the-race-for-rookie-of-the-year-patriot-reign/
I doubt he'd want to be with the Jets. He was upset being the 3rd man (slot and nickel) in NE. He probably doesn't want to be the 4th man in NY.
greggrosenthal gregg rosenthal Ras-I Dowling out for year for Pats. Makes Bodden release even more surprising.
No doubt he's had a great year, but it was just one year. Most people tend to wait a for years before judging a player, but everyone seemed to judge McCourty as a shut down corner after his rookie season. There are a ton of guys who have looked good in their rookie season only for them to never go on and get better.
