I think the DBs will be a strength moving forward. Butler is starting to come into it and McCourty is gonna be a good on. Merriweather is gonna be a top 10 safety this year (if he wasn't already last year) and Chung, Sanders, and McGowan are pretty good.

It's all gonna come down to pass rush, and that was non-existent last year. Though it was just game one of the preseason, they were sending guys at Brees from all over last night! Belichik is smart enough to see what works (Rex's blitzing) and utilize it.

Jesus, don't get too carried away here. I'd sign on right now for a Pats split, to be honest. Can we beat them twice? Sure. Can they beat us twice? Sure.

I enjoyed Hard Knocks too, but while I thought them being on it might affect the team too much, I didn't realize the affect it would have on us.

That said, I expect a Dolphins and Bills sweep.

Where exactly did the Jets finish in total offense? 20th I think. Take away Faneca, Jones and Washington and who knows how they perform. My guess is Sanchez continues to blow and Jets put up another 9-7 season despite an elite Defense.

Despite having the lowest number of passing attempts in the league, I think Faneca gave up the most sacks for a guard (I may be wrong on that). Jones was gonna be a backup this year to Shonn Greene and LT is a more versatile backup than Jones (despite slowing down the past couple years). Washington missed most of the year and wasn't having a huge impact despite the increased workload. Sanchez was a much different guy in the playoffs than in the regular season...hopefully he'll grow from that experience and be a much better QB this year.

Even at 75%, I have a hard time believing that the best possession receiver in the league being thrown to by one of the best QBs in the league will be made into a bitch by a rookie from a mid-major school. Color me skepitcal...

I may have misstepped when I read the quote but the Pats still cheated.

That I read a few times.

    And understood.

1st, who cares about caps, it's a football forum, not a college exam! petty

2nd jets played in the championship game by way of backing into the playoffs, again. seems every year there's a team that gets hot at the right time and goes further than most would have expected, hense jets. the jets have to do more than back into the playoffs this year to give any real meaning to what they pulled off last year in the playoffs. otherwise, it'll be one of those astrix type memories, for the most part.

3rd; the jets still have a long way to go before we start believing in all the hype. so far, too much hype and not enough football played!

lastly. nothing was directed so much at you as much as it was at the board in general, but if you want to take everything personal, be my guest, but it is a little over the top with how this team played during the regular season to be proclaiming our team to be the elite of the division. first loss of the season you'll probably be one of the first to be wagon jumping as so many others on this board do when the team loses one they should not have, as in twice last year to the dulphins. which shouldn't really be all that much of a surprise, considering it's not as if the jets were a dominant team last year. defensively, yes, but overall, a long way to go before talking superbowl.

Not to mention that he has a new weapon in Holmes. Having LT and hopefully McKnight to throw to should cut down on the INT's as well.

And you are being way too pessimistic. Remember that last year the Jets had a rookie QB, HC, and a brand new defensive scheme. You have to give them credit for putting it together at the right time. There is no reason to believe that they won't improve on Offense and in the regular season in general.

You also earlier compared the boards excitement to the 1st season under Mangini. I really hope that you don't think that Mangini is any where near the coach that Rex is. That being said, Mangini lost his first playoff game, whereas Rex wins his first 2 on the road with a rookie QB. Comparing apples and oranges.

I don't think he was funny at all...we get it, Rex is overweight.

    Pretty unoriginal.

Can we stop with this backed in garbage? The Jet's didn't back in, that was in 2005 when we lost to the Rams in the last game and needed help to get in which happened.

Who else should have been in? Houston? Did you watch Week 1 when the Jets destroyed them in their building? The 7-9 Dolphins who won how many games in December? The Steelers who lost to the Browns and Raiders and were swept by the same Bengal team that the Jets beat twice? The 7-9 Jags? The Broncos who started 6-0 and didn't get in? The Jets won the games they needed to win to get in at the time they needed to win them. The Jets can't control what other teams do.

This team was a few plays away from having 11 or 12 wins and a half away from the Super Bowl. You can that a fluke and maybe it was but I've been watching this team for 25 years and last December and Jan was about as good as I have seen them play since 98 and 1986 before that.

Defense wins championships and it was no fluke that the Jets had he #1 defense in the NFL and only got better this year.
