I agree with you...but one question...IF the jets take DMC will they try to move Thomas Jones during the draft? Back to the Bears?

I can't even believe people are already giving up hope on Clemens. That's a defeatist attitude at best. This shouldn't even be an issue going into camp IMO. We have to see if he's the guy or not. We know Chad is just a stopgap to this large wound. Been great for us but not leading us deep anywhere. -2nd and more important regarding the draft is our #1 pick. I'm happy with Gholston or McFadden. Gholston seems to fill a bigger need and we haven't had a great D since...well a long long time. He could be the missing link to building a great young D. -DMC gives us a home run threat at RB that we haven't had....ever. Yet I think TJ will be much better this year with the improved Line. The running game could be a strength of this team this yr. If Gholston or DMC aren't on the board, then take the best D player available. Build a great D and we go from there. I agree with you...but one question...IF the jets take DMC will they try to move Thomas Jones during the draft? Back to the Bears?" Good question. I think we keep Jones and have a 2 back system. At least for the remainder of this season. The DMC pick would defy much reasonable logic and also create other roster problems in the process such as the one you bring up and many others have as well. That being said, I just have the opinion that he will be a star in the league for a while. I could very well be wrong. Gamble pick for sure. But I'd go for it. If we want to go the safe route then take Gholston or McKelvie or another young D stud. I shouldn't even say safe because I think if we get Gholston he could be a star for years as well. Really can't go wrong with either guy IMO.
1. We did not "waste" a high 2nd round pick on Thomas Jones. We swapped 2nd round picks with Chicago. Granted they had a late 2nd, but we had a mid 2nd. 10-6, remember? 2. Thomas Jones is really, really good. With an actual OL in front of him he could easily have 1600 yards and 10 TD's. He plays and runs exactly like Curtis, with a little more breakaway speed. 3. His contract is extremely reasonable. So please, bitch about something else. I know you will.
C'mon buddy, Kyle Boller is dominant. He can throw the ball 75 yards off of one knee. ...and as we all know, that's all you need in order to be a successful quarterback in this league. Jamarcus Russell can throw even further. He should be a stud.
This is the key guys, Go back and look at the video again and this time watch the rush and pressure K.C. is under. In most cases he barely plants his feet to throw before the pass rush is on him. Look at the first blind side hit, you wonder why this kid might have been rushing his throws. On the throws to both J.Mac and Lava, he put the ball right in their hands. Please do not give me the crap about touch, those throws SHOULD have been caught, by pro receivers on this level. An make no mistake, over the course of his playing time last year, there were too many of those drops by his receivers. If a few more of those catches were made, then maybe his confidence level would have been much higher this year. The problem I think, was these guys were use to catching Penny's soft passes and not use to the zip the K.C. puts on them. I think J.C. did a better job of catching K.C. passes because he was use to catching stuff from Rivers all thru college and was more accustomed to the speed and force of the ball. How these so called "experts" can judge Clemens a failure after his first starts behind what was, with out question, the second or third worst O-line in the NFL last year, shows why the experts don't know there ass from there elbows. If these folks would have mentioned the adversities this ROOKIE was dealing with and how it would be unfair to judge him just yet, then maybe you would think they know a little something. What I find more amazing is the Jet fans who have deemed him nothing special either and are ready to dispose of him and draft another rookie in his place with our first pick. This knowing full well that both he and Penny were under siege last season. I can name a ton of QB's who were even more shaky the Kellen in the first few years who went on to become both Super Bowl winners some more then once, Pro Bowlers and then to the Hall of Fame. Hell guys, just at the beginning of last season many were questioning if Eli Manning was the answer to the Giants troubles at QB. Do I think this is the road that Kellen is on, in truth I just don't know. His body of work under center with the conditions he has had to play under does not allow one to judge, just yet. This season with the proper parts and a complete offense around him, we will be better equip to answer the question, is Kellen the real deal going forward for the New York Jets. I know I have said this before but I think it's worth repeating again. This staff has done a consistent job of picking young players who are very high quality and able to get done what this staff projected they could do.We have seen that in Mangold, Revis, Harris,Brick,Washington, among others, so other then A. Schlegel they have been right on the money in choosing talent. An even that pick may pan out in time, after all he is still on the Bengals roster. My point of this whole post is we must give this kid a fair shot before we give up on him. The Jets will know for sure by the end of the up coming season one way or the other. Depending on how and who they pick in this up coming draft, I think we will all see just how smart this group is and how they are sticking to the vision they have for the Jets. Which gives me hope that they made the right pick when they took Kellen in the second round. This group does there homework and they saw something in this kid that gave them hope that he was the answer for the long term QB need for the NYJets.
Was it my imagination or was the TD to Baker in the clip a nice touch pass? Just because he doesn't throw lobs that get the WR killed doesn't mean he doesn't have touch.
I love the fact that everyone pretty much acknowledges that we have a big Question mark at QB with Clemens a big liability with what we can do with Chad but nobody wants to draft a QB. This team isn't building toward anything serious until we have a young leader at QB who the entire organization believes in. Having a competition between a 3rd year high draft pick and an overpaind veteran with two shoulder surgeries and a pop gun of an arm tells you that the Jets management doesn't believe in either QB.
Apparently a Franchise QB is not required to win big these days, as Jets fans we should be thankfull for mediocrity. ^That statement was sarcastic Kellen Clemens + Chad Pennington = Matt Ryan :breakdance: ^The above statement was NOT sarcastic
Having a competition between a 3rd year high draft pick and an overpaid veteran with two shoulder surgeries and a pop gun of an arm tells you that the Jets management doesn't believe in either QB.[/QUOTE] See, it's this kind of stuff that amazes me. At this point we have only heard that there will be a competition, Chad may not be here by the start of training camp. We will have to see how it all plays out, there are still many questions to be answered before this is all said and done. Then the comment about not believing in either QB, what are the Jets suppose to say, "Chad's all washed up and it's Clemen's job to lose"? What kind of respect does this show Chad, how would an action like this reduce his trade value, if any? The Jets have a huge amount of respect for Chad and I'm sure they are trying to deal with this whole QB issue with kid gloves. Plus you call Chad overpaid, for a starter he would not be overpaid, for a backup he surely would. Again, Tanny says Chad will be with the team this up coming season, but this group is not Bradway and Herm, they say a lot of things, but are not the type guys to show there hands. If anything they are firm belivers in protecting information and presenting false fronts. I again expect Kellen Clemens to be the under center for the opening of the season. I cannot see this staff giving up on him knowing the difficulties he faced last season. Chad counts as 7 million against the cap this season and I can't see the Jets paying that for a back-up services. So, before fans or the "experts" rush to read anything into statements made by the NY Jets. Or rush to judgement on the F/O and C/S evaulation of the teams QB talent, let's wait and see how it all plays out......
I remember it well and I still think we wasted the #6 pick in the second round on him. Look at the results. He doesn't even have a lifetime 4.0 YPC average and all of a sudden he is going to be a superstar? Nobody ran for 1600 yards but all of a sudden Jones is better than any other back in the league? I don't think so. 12 million guaranteed is anything but reasonable for a mediocre RB.
I agree if they are sold on Clemens, Chad should be unloaded in either trade or cut since it's clear he believes he is a starter and will not likely renegiotate to a back up salary since that is Chad's leverage. The smart move for Chad if the Jets will not start him is to force the team to trade him where he will start or force a cut so he can make a deal as an FA to a team he can start for. That may well be why they are taking the public position they have taken? If on the other hand they are serious that there will be an open competition for the starting job than I stand by my statement. That is proof positive that neither Chad or Clemens has proven their worth as the starter.
We traded 2nd round picks and already had an additional 2nd round pick. We picked up Thomas Jones, coming off an all-pro year and a SB appearance, for what equates to a high 3rd round pick. If you don't see the value in that, and honestly sit there and call Jones mediocre considering what he was able to accomplish behind our shit OL, then I guess there is no debating with you.
I just dont understand why it's so difficult to grasp the concept that it TAKES TIME for a QB to develop...and it takes even LONGER when they dont have a good supporting cast. For all we know..Clemens ISNT the answer. But these "Assumptions" that he "isnt the guy" are w/ way too little evidence...and frankly are off base. I could buy the insistence for drafting a QB in round 1 if there was a clearcut guy. But if you think Matt ryan is an elite QB prospect..you're way off. In fact..I'm not sure he's any better of a QB prospect than Clemens was! Why spend an early/expensive draft pick on a guy that isnt a clearcut upgrade over what we already have regardless of the positional need.
Personally I thought Jones looked slow, lacked any burst or open field moves and was a dissapointment. It could have been his injury in preseason? The line was bad but Jones really didn't show much to think he is anything more than average.
MY THOUGHTS EXCATLY, CHAD'S GOT PLENTY OF HEART BUT THAT WEAK ARM OF HIS IS NOT ONLY KILLING OUR RECEIVERS BUT ALSO OUR "YAC" (YARDS AFTER CATCH). IF YOU NOTICED IN MANY OF THE GAME THAT KELLEN PLAYED IN, THE OUR RECIEVERS GAINED ALOT OF YARDS AFTER THE CATCH. THEY DONT HAVE TO PLAY "JUMP BALL" WITH KELLEN'S THROW WHICH HAVE PLENTY OF ZIP. MAYBE KELLEN'S NOT THE ANSWER, BUT CHAD IS DEFINATELY NOT.
This does sound all too good and not doubt a healthy Chad with give Kellen a run for the money. Yet, if with this revamped O-line, they are planning to use all of Shott's playbook one would have to say Kellen has the edge. An again, I don't think Kellen has proven his worth as a starter, but I also don't believe he has been given a full oppertunity to show his full measure. We pretty much know just what Chad brings to the table at this point. He can do a few things very well, yet, due to the beating he has taken over the years, it has reduced his over all repertoire.
