Jets picked 3rd that year so there were many players still available but McNeil was graded as one of the top 3 picks. Any other team would have chosen him in the same spot regardless of Lott still being on the board. It was not a bad pick at all, nothing like Vick, Lam, or Lageman.
How many players can a team draft on draft day? I think it's between 9-12, depending on how many draft picks one has cadged off of other teams in exchange for players or other considerations (i.e. Herm). I'm not sure there's a set number, but that's about how it works from what I understand. Can anyone provide more specific info for our Aussie friends?
Each team gets 7 draft choices before trades. With trades though teams can have as little as zero picks if they trade them away and there is no limit as too how many they can have if the acquire picks from other teams.
