"Paging Woody Johnson.. Green Phone on the left..."

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by Cman68, Oct 18, 2016.

  1. He also had the fortitude to take Mario Williams when the whole world thought he was crazy for passing on Reggie Bush. Williams has never been dominant..but I'll take a 2 way strongside DE over a scat back any day of the week.Charlie nailed that.

I don't think the question at hand is whether Casserly was a good GM..but rather if he is a sound football man w. principle & conviction. It's kind of hard to dispute that he is based on his resume.

As I mentioned prior unless he's rationalizing another cheating scandel or announcing his regretful retirement Hoodie satan's words are hot air in jest.

who cares about Cooks? Should've had either Bridgewater or Carr

  3. Point taken Re: QBs.

But Pryor looks like a really dud pick. That isn't to say he doesn't have some great attributes..but the stuff he thrives at is being removed from the game. He's an enforcer & high impact hitter. If you think about it...on Pryor's BEST play...he's getting fined & possibly flagged w.o fail. Basketball on turf..Pryor lacks the suddenness, fluidity & hops to be a 3 down safety in that environment.

What talent do we really have outside of the DL and WR positions?

    Honestly.

And the DL may be way over rated or way under coached.

Or out of balance with the addition of Williams and the departure of Snacks.

Our Wr talent is older than most teams as the younger guys are still unproven. The DLine is still trying to figure out how to fit our overlapping duplicate personnel. Qb is still a work in progress and ST's are mediocre.. This roster is a work in progress. Names? Yes... Stacked? Not even close.

I think ASJ has a ton of talent. He was injured on Monday vs the Cardinals and didn't play, and has only been with the team a week or so. I think he will be a solid contributor. Darren Lee has a ton of talent. Burris has talent. Carpenter has talent. Powell has talent, Pope supposedly has some talent. Khiry Robinson has talent. Jenkins the OLB has talent. I think that Petty and Hack have talent. Edwards has talent. Folk has talent.

I would substitute "potential" for "talent" as a descriptor but that's just me being assholian again. :)

Should never have fired Rex or Pete Carol. We should have stuck with Sanchez until someone better came along.

We dump head coaches and QBs too quickly without addressing other pressing needs.

With Ryan we went to New England and beat an unbeatable New England team in the playoffs.

We need to commit to coaches and players until we're sure they are the problem and we can get someone better.

Right now we need a tight end and defensive backs.

It took Parcells one year to make us respectable and two years to turn us into SB contenders.

Clearly you made this post without thinking so I won't hold it against you.

Please go back to 97 and everything that happened leading to the 98 season.

Look at the situation and the roster.

    Sigh.

We have potential and some talent. We don't have a roster made up of superstars. Our roster is thin as fuck with playmakers.

Sanchez is dog shit. So terrible now that he can barely even make a team as a third string qb. Rex wore out his welcome too. He doesn't deserve a free pass forever based off of two years. Did you totally just forget the last 4 years of his tenure? A disaster. Just because Bowles isn't the answer, doesn't make it a mistake that we got rid of an overrated blow hard like Rex.

I agree that we don't have a bunch of superstars and not a lot of playmakers, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Tanny left the cupboard pretty bare and Idzik almost totally screwed the pooch. That's why I thought all the excitement last season and early this season was premature. I thought the team should have gone with more of a youth movement and not brought in all the expensive FAs, but they had to to an extent because Idzik hadn't spent the money. I said initially that I thought it would take at least 3-4 seasons for the roster to be rebuilt to a decent level. That was before I knew that they would be trying to retool on the fly rather than undergoing a major rebuild. It may take longer.

IMO we need to use some premium picks on the offensive side of the ball. As you said, however, we need some real playmakers on D who can create TOs and change the momentum and direction of games. We need a stud pass-rushing OLB and a ball-hawking CB and FS.

Yeah Rex really improved the jets didn't he? The longer he stayed here, the worse we got-- including 6-10 and 4-12 two of his last 3 years here.

You couldn't be more wrong. We gave Rex plenty of time, and the team was getting worse and was an embarrassment. Carroll was a joke at the time and never would have succeeded. He admitted after he became successful with Seattle, that getting fired was a wake up call for him. He spent a year or so thinking about where he went wrong, then went to USC to get his act together.

You said, "That's what always keeps us mediocre. We never maintain consistency. Ever." I gave you one example where we didn't maintain consistency and did better than mediocre. That's all there is to see here.
