I can then say, he was poorly coached and he was playing out of position the years prior. The Cards finally put him in the proper scenario and he excelled. He is a guy that will fit in our scheme just the same as his old role, so how do you know we have overpaid him already? I could say, I think we got a steal. I think we just aquired a guy that has not seen his full potential yet. Someone who will be an amazing star in this league, who is still very young. He is about to be a guy that explodes on to the scene and he will be a Jet when he does it. His breakout year was the first of many to come. So sit tight and enjoy the ride.
Ha, this is true. I'm hoping Coleman improves a bit. That's why I said "most likely." As far as linebackers, he's found some studs: John Abraham, Demarcus Ware are the two most recent but he's got the track record since the 80s with LB.
Pace's numbers in the 3-4 last year were good numbers for the Cardinals and the JETS think he can build upon it. Hopefully Bryan Thomas can put up the numbers he did in the 06 season or add depth to the DE/OLB spot when the JETS draft Vernon Gholston.
Who really cares if the guy is overpaid anyway? I(as well as all season tix holders) are paying the increase for tix whether they upgraded the team or not. It certainly feels better to pay the increase after the ownership and FO shows they do indeed care about winning.
Wow, Mangini really is an idiot. This guy has averaged 2.9 sacks a season for the last 5 years, are you kidding me? You guys got duped again ! This guy is average at best. He managed to get 6.5 sacks last season because it was his contract year. Now that he got his money, he'll rever back to his ways and his 2.9 sacks per year average. Wow, another homerun for the Patriots after signing Randy. What a great, great day in Patriot nation.
Excellent move. This guy was a top 10 3-4 OLB last year in only his first year at the position. You can say what you want about contract year and blah blah but he obviously improved once Winehurst became coach and was very good once he was moved to OLB. He seems very determined and is still quite young.
I like your optimism but I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. Bryan Thomas excelled when they moved him to 3-4, he got a contract, and then he went back to being Turd Thomas. The Jets are very good at putting players in a position to fail. The general theme of this offseason has been very high risk, high reward type signings. I am ecstatic that the Jets are making all these moves, but I just pray they don't blow up in our face.
We got our Pass Rush Specialist so only makes sense Gholston aint our guy no more , Lets now get some play makers at Reciever and another Corner come draft day.... Tangini... Doing Work !
The Pats had average offenses in '01 and '03. In '04 Brady became a very good quarterback. Are you proposing the Jets draft a QB? Because the Pats' WR and RB talent was no better than what the Jets have right now.
Actually I had the same feelings when we signed Ronnie Lott, Leonard Marshall & Boomer. Hopefully the outcome will be different.
This was an enormous leap of faith in the Jet's part if the contract is actually that good. Adalius Thomas got substantially less to move to the Pats last season after having back to back seasons that were twice as good as anything Pace has put together. How many linebackers come out of nowhere to become great at the age of 28? That's what the Jets are banking on here. Now for the part I like: no way in hell Victor Hobson is on this team next season. It's almost worth the signing just to ensure that he's outta here. Pace has forced 5x as many fumbles as Hobson has in his career.
