I know what the OP is talking about, I didnt leave the game today so dont even try it but back in 2002 vs the Packers on my way into the game we watched the miracle comeback of the Pats over Miami in one of the espn tents and it was a similiar reaction and celebration to what the OP is describing. Strangers hugging people going nuts, I too tell that story all the time...see I just did it right there.
Stop fucking giving him shit about "being a real fan," it's a fucking happy time with our team, and you guys bitch at a guy who admittted he left. Even though I never leave no matter the score, some people have reasons.
I have a three and a half hour drive each way. I have never left even one play early. I go with my father too, so it's not like my group is a bunch of crazy young people. A long drive is REASON to stay: you invest all that time, what is 30 more minutes? And beating traffic? That's a myth, unless you are leaving when no one else is. You think you were the only one who left after the pick? It was probably close to if not over 50% of the fans making the term "beating the traffic" complete garbage. Have a talk with your dad, cause you may actually wait less in traffic if you stay until the end. If you think it was crazy outside of the stadium reacting to the dedicated few, then you should have actually experienced it, cause it was way better. Saying that your favorite sport memory is leaving a game early and missing a great comeback? Sorta odd man. I know it wasn't your call, so my distaste is not directly at you, but to the whole philosophy, because it's pretty lame people leave early like that. They tried to make crowd noise a big thing for this game - leaving early just hurts any advantage that crowds can give their teams.
According to some members of the board, the Jets Org only have ~20K fans ("real" fans mind you). They are the people who stay to the end no matter what. They don't leave early, they don't arrive late AND they certainly wouldn't dare watch the game at home (even road games). Because people who watch the games at home are bandwagoners or not "real" fans. the rubbish on this board is laughable. People (assuming adults) boasting about who's a BIGGER fan. The last time I had a conversation like that was when i was 8yrs old, arguing over who was a bigger Star Blazers fan with other little kids. "Real" fans! that's gold, you can't make that shit up. I guess i'm just a bandwagon fan who enjoys watching the game on my couch. Jetsmet - Ignore the douches on this board, if you've ever watch "Big Fan" (Patton Oswalt), this is probably what you're dealing with.
Good story man! I wont rip you, but one thing I will say. Dont even let your dad live that down!!
He didnt say it was his best sports memory, all he did was comment on his expierience of today, didnt say it was any better than anyone elses, just that he enjoyed it regardless of of where he was and how its memorable to him. I really dont see the problem with this. also this really isnt directed directly at you either I suppose, just in general people riding the OP.
In 1986 (I was 15) my dad made us leave game 6 of the WS early so that he could be the traffic, I will never forget having to listen to the miracle that was to be on the radio on the way home. I learned on that day never to leave a game before it is over. My dad however, still gets to the game early, parks as close to the exits as he can and leaves early to beat the traffic, but then again what do you expect out of a Yankee/Giants fan...
1:30- bunch of pussies. Try 4 hours and then you can whip out your shlong. 1:30 is not a badge of honor.
Wow. Some people are just jerks. Did u even read what he wrote in the OP? He said his dad wanted to leave and beat the traffic. He wasn't going to stay there by himself.
