Yeah, right. I don't wanna hear wishy washy built in excuses a month before the draft when this same regime has been touting "Building through the draft" since their initial plan went to shit. I've always hated the self defeating "draft is a crapshoot" crowd. W. that attitude you're sure to draft busts. The Great teams consistently are able to find top talent that fits their team in the draft seemingly year after year. That's no coincidence. The fact that this is a large market team w. deep pockets further removes this crappy explanation 's validity. Jets could concieveably outspend everyone on all sorts of scouting resources if they chose to. More manpower, better technology & logistics, additional consultants as needed.None of that is subject to the salary cap. But instead we get Woe is Bowles.
to be fair it is a crapshoot. you get 7 picks. if you can land 2-3 starters it's a solid draft, if 1 becomes a probowler it's a great draft. If you can get a starter in rounds 4-7 is an excellent job. The NFL is a numbers game. teams carry 51 players on an active gameday roster that's 1632 "jobs" we'll call it 1700 because inactives and PS players. with comp picks and UDFAs, there are roughly 250 players entering the NFL every year trying to take some of those jobs. That's almost 15% of jobs on the line. every single year.
these are not stupid people (despite the evidence to the contrary) - its not like the team would have forgotten that there were 2 teams picking before the Colts
