For weeks I have heard the complaints, the moans the groans, the curses at this joke of a HC and CS he put together..yes Ive thrown up in my mouth a few time since the Detroit game...added on to 2 5-11 seasons...I mean who can take this stupidity /torture??? The GM has also lost me..with all the good bad and in between moves his getting Darnold,,moving up was the ONLY thing he got right with a record of piss poor drafts and lousy free agent signings BUT WHO IS BEHIND the MESS???? Who can tolerate 2 bad seasons amateur coaching and being the NFL laughing stock...who conducts a search committee to hire a GM and a HC (universities, hospitals and govmt agencies have a team of advisors...BUT A FOOTBALL TEAM ??(no waaaay) THE JOHNSONS are BEHIND THIS GARBAGE OF A FRANCHISE ......AND THEY HAVE TO GO...the REAL question is HOW to get rid of them!! BTW ...Champ is extreme but hes RIGHT about this one So ask yourself..who would BUY this team? The answer to a VP new Coach and new GM cannot be assigned to J&J ...THEY CANT BE TRUSTED..they make $ on the fools who show up for Jet games..and pay us lip service..WORSE: they actually extended the Dummy Duo after going 5-11 twice!
The Panthers are lucky (I think)..they were just bought for 2.2 Bill by D Tepper the Hedge Fund manager who I believe was formerly a minority stakeholder in the Steelers. So at least there is some football knowledge and experience there. He replaced "disgraced " owner J richardson. Well Woody and Chris are absolutely disgraceful..when do we get lucky??. Anybody on the TGG have some Wall Street connections? lol
Charlie Casserly. Woody hired him in good faith to conduct a thorough search for the next Jets GM. I can't begin to imagine how much Woody paid him. Who did we end up with? His butt buddy from Houston. What have the Texans ever won? They're in the same boat the Jets are in now! If you want a team that drafts well, a GM that knpws what a winner looks like have to pick him off a championship tree like the Steelers. A GM like Doug Whaley could do better the second time around I think.
As I mentioned in another thread, how about talking Manning into setting aside his grudge against us for Parcell's snub of him, and offer him a minority share and give him the Pres. of Football Ops job?
I have no idea how he'd do in that role. IMO it would reek of a PR stunt. He has no ties here just because he is who he is doesn't mean he'd work out here the way Elway has in Denver. In Indianapolis he's a demigod let him go there. The Jets need a experienced GM with ties to a winning organization and a experienced HC. Doug Whaley-Jim Harbaugh would be a dream come true.
Where is Doug Whaley now. Why not make the move immediately. Create a new position to run the whole enchilada. Then let him decide who he wants next year as HC and GM.
Think it's a far shot. These roles are usually filled by people with direct ties to the organization or via direct networking. I think Cowher would be more realistic than Manning -- not because of the direct connection -- but because he's been occupying an "objective" roll as an analyst. Not sure Manning would want to rock the boat with his fan base, working for an "enemy" organization. Also, I'm not sure Manning has a balanced perspective on evaluating the defensive side of the ball.
I don't think he's employed by a team at this time. His wikipedia page states he worked for 10 years directly under Steelers director of football operation Kevin Colbert. To me it looked like he had the Bills heading in the right direction before Marrone opted out of his contract. Then he got stuck with Rex and that was that. I haven't heard or seen anything about anyone with the Jets being in danger of losing their jobs if this season goes on the way it's been going.
You're right, Manning is an unknown, but he's got a rep as brilliant, was raised in a football family, and of course has great experience and knowledge upon which to draw. My bet is he'd do great as an architect of a franchise, which is what I've heard he's interested in doing - if he can't buy his own team, maybe being a part owner would satisfy him for now. I'm not disagreeing with your idea about a Whaley/Harbaugh team, and maybe that would be great, but no guarantees there either. Bottom line: I'm just looking for the answer that's eluded them for half a century.
I'll take a more socialistic position. Eminent domain. We take the Jets public...and give it to the people.
