its all good. im not sure why i felt it necessary to make a point of that. though it does annoy me because i do the same shit and always go and get the info i cant remember before posting. maybe i am mad at myself for giving too much of a shit.
Unless they think Aboushi and/or Dozier could handle it (or maybe, Winters? gulp!), notice that we have no depth at OT since Ijalana wasn't re-signed. It will be interesting to see how the FO addresses this.
I know it would probably be an "unpopular" choice, but if a guy like Scherff is legit, depending on what the board looks like, I'd have no problem trading back a few spots and taking the best Tackle in the draft. Or looking at whoever is the best pure Guard in the draft if available in round 2. Giaco isn't very good to begin with, and if he were to go down, right now, the team would be hosed.
While OG is a huge need, LT is even more important. You don't want a rookie LT starting if you can help it. IMO, the 2nd round pick should be used on the best LT prospect left if the Jets' FO likes any of them and thinks he will develop into Brick's replacement. Many people think Scherff won't play OT in the NFL but rather OG, and that is WAY too high to take an OG imo. If the Jets are committed to taking an OL in the first round, it would be better to trade down a few spots and take La'el Collins or another LT prospect. If the Jets think they have to get an OG in the draft, based on what I've been reading, Laken Tomlinson should be there in the 3rd round.
I was thinking they could try Scherff (or one of the other guys, depending on who they like best: i.e. Collins, Peat, Flowers, Humphries) at RT, and maybe kick Giaco inside. If not, plugging and playing Scherff at the LG spot could provide a huge boost in my opinion. I wouldn't take him at #6, but like I said, depending on who's available Jets could trade back and maybe still get him. I remember there being some debate as to whether Zack Martin was better suited to play G or T at the next level. Any idea how Scherff or these other guys compares to Martin as far as being an NFL ready day one starter?
Kicking Giaco inside and starting a rookie at RT could work and that would be my preference over simply drafting Scherff with a high first round pick, unless they were certain he could be an excellent RT. As important as the OL is, I'm not one who believes in using a first round pick on an OG. Yes, I remember that with Martin. I have not had time to research players this year, so have no idea about how Scherff compares to Martin in terms of being ready to start day one, or if he could play OT. I have seen widely divergent opinions on Scherff. Some think he can play RT effectively in the NFL, others do not. Others think he is grossly overrated.
