I do find it very strange this obsession with finding another RB right now. They must be really unhappy with the trio on the roster right now.. IMO that has more to do with their belief that these guys just cannot get it done rather than their willingness to go with a youngster.. All evidence points that way. Lets take a look at our rookie class.. DBrick- Lock to start all year Mangold - Lock to start all year Clemens- most likely the BU to start the year, will take over the QB position at some point this year.(unless in PO contention:lol: ) Schlegal- Haven't heard much about him since TC started E. Smith- Sounds like will be starting S, possibly to start the year. B. Smith- 3 or aty worst 4 WR will get plenty of playing time this year, will probably have a certain amount of plays drawn up just for him.. Washington- a big time ?? at this point but the pursuit of RBs doesn't bode well for Washington. From our first 7 draft picks, it looks like at least 5 if not more will get a chance this year. Thats not even mentioning a guy like Stacy Tutt who might be our starting FB this year and Cotchery who will get his first chance this year.
CMAN, Not being sarcastic here...always respect your posts. Im confused though. Where does anyone see that Mangini or Tannenbaum are trying to stockpile useless personel. Have they really come out and said that this isnt a rebuilding year..and they expect to compete for the superbowl with this personel? I just look at this way..and I can easily be wrong. They have to field a team...they went out and did squat in free agency. They sured up 40% of the offensive line for the next 5-10 years..even if the two first picks end up being just good. They pretty much stuck with the receivers they inherited and went out and got Dwight. I wouldnt exactly call that useless. In the first year of the program...would it be smart if they went out and signed 3 or 4 big name free agents instead? There isnt a contract they signed with anyone that wouldnt kill the team if they had to be cut down the road besides the first 3 picks in the draft. On defense, they really stayed status quo..staying with 2/3 of the defensive line...half of the linebackers (3 if you count Thomas starting)..and 3/4 of the defensive backfield. They lost Law and replaced him with Dyson who is about 7 years younger. They kept the kicker..and punter. Useless signings to me are overpaying in the beginning of the rebuilding stage..and they didnt do that at all. Im with you as far as the frustration part. Us older Jet fans really dont want to hear about a 3 to 4 year plan.
Jay, here's my thought process on this... When they made a run at an often injured Suggs, that said they weren't willing to go into the season with Askew/Washington/Houston/Blaylock in the backfield. Suggs has been useless in Cleveland the past several seasons and as it turns out, couldn't even pass his physical here (thank God!). What I'm hoping for is for them to stand pat and go into the season with who's on the Roster presently so that come draft day '07, we won't have to take the BPA (safe) route and instead, draft specifically for needs. While I realize they have to have a roster, what I'd like to see is the rebuilding process start from within. That means give the guys on the roster presently a real chance to show what they got. If they can't cut it, cut them. Don't keep them on the team as filler. Then come draft day, draft for specific needs just like they did last draft but on a much wider scale. They might also want to start considering drafting star talent instead of character/mediocre/hardworking/low talent guys. If that means making trades to stockpile picks, then do it. You do realize we don't have ONE single impact player on this Roster anywhere? The last impact player we drafted was Keyshawn..
Completely makes sense. Making trades with the roster we have now to aquire blue chips might be tough. I fully understand where you're coming from though.
