1 positive, 1 defense of gholston: 1- jake long only gave up one sack all year. guess to who? 2- i read (don't know if it's 100% true) that gholston was 'coached' to not waste gas running downfield after running backs. once the rb has 'left the house', take a breather, or the rest of the 'play off', as they say.
this is where we're going to see what our coaching staff is made of. we bought ourself a ferrari, but the motor has a miss in it. the question is, do we have the mechanics to make this thing run like a beast?!!!!!!
and what would have been said if NE got him.......probably a BRILLIANT move ..and possibly soon to be a top 5 impact player in nfl we got him....and its possibly the biggest bust in the draft! Mangini is no bullshit guy and pushes evryone hard....VG will be no different its all at a different level now..and expect a higher level of play....guy is gonna be viscous IMO
id bet Mangini makes sure all these shortfalls of character/attitude/gameplay will be pasted all over this guys locker space....i mean really get him pissed off
Nice... Man that used to piss me off. How can you play with so much passion during the regular season and then cry about BS during the playoffs.
Gholston isn't coming here to vacation. He better not take a play off or this coaching staff will definitely let him know about it. I see him as a solid pick that has a great chance to work out.
Here's my take on Gholston... 1. One of the reasons for his percieved "lack of motor" is the fact he isnt a great fit as a 4-3 down lineman. He lacks great quickness off the snap and it causes him to struggle a bit if facing a real good OL who can take advantage of this and get good leverage. Consequently, he doesnt lack any kind of motor when standing up or in the 5 technique. That is the position he will be playing here. 2. C'mon..we're talking about the all time single season sack leader in Ohio state history. OHIO STATE! He just took that label from Mike Vrabel! This isnt a case of a guy who was a complete nobody until the combine...he CLEARLY has the accomplishments to back up his elite status. 3. As previously stated, including by mangini himself, there may have been times when he wasnt making big jaw breaking plays for the camera..but he was doing little things that affected games. Mangini described him as "very disruptive". And when you're constantly being double teamed, like this guy was...sometimes that all you can ask for. 4. Take a look at those triangle numbers. Those maybe the best EVER for someone of this position. These numbers blow Shawn MERRIMAN away. HHe obviously is a commited individual....and based on his college results...we have ALOT to work w/
What the hell are you saying? Are saying that 14 sacks last season means that he has not proved himself on the field. Give your head a shake!! The reality is that he is not just a "workout wonder", he has proven to be a lethal pass rusher the last few years and I think he will only get better with proper coaching and some talented lb's and lineman playing with him. It's ok to have an opinion, but make sure it is an informed opinion!
