Players need time to mature, some longer than other. I don't think Geno will pan out, but for as long as he is on this team I will hope that he will finally "click".

You should too, and certainly stop yelling - you are coming off as jackass.

hey if geno wants to go ahead and unexpectedly become a franchise qb I'm sure most jets fans would be thrilled. I won't hold my breath.

let's hold off on putting him in Canton

I hope Geno, Petty and Hack all become worth something so we can pick and choose between them and maybe shop one of them for some benefit.

We all know hopes only go so far, though.

Good write up, and MacCagnan may actually agree with you. Mac may not even WANT Fitz back, and made him a low ball offer on purpose. Thoughts?

I think that's the reason they've kept saying that so long as Fitz signs by training camp they're good. This almost seems designed to cause Fitz not to sign until then, so the Jets can evaluate their other QBs. I think they actually want to determine whether they think Hack will be able to start this year, but it could also be to evaluate Geno and/or Petty. If they think that anyone can perform acceptably then I think they don't resign Fitz and they basically say they couldn't afford him. If they don't think that anyone else can perform acceptably then they'll resign Fitz. Fitz and his agent were foolish to overplay their hand.

Im of the opinion that theres definitely more to this than numbers. If they wanted fitzpatrick that badly, he would be signed already. Im sure could have come up with a contract that protects the team outside the first season. I think they arent sold on Fitzpatrick but also dont want to alienate him just in case.

If this is true and Fitz he hasn't accepted it.... he needs to fire hid agent. Or have his wife take a frying pan and knock some sense into him. That's as good as its gunna get.

It seems to me the people saying good things about Geno are basing their comments on actual current news about how he did today. The people dissing him are expressing opinions based on dated info. I prefer news, good or bad, based on fact.

It's not being dense, it's people having the right to their opinion.

You may not like it and the facts prove people wrong but they still have the right to an incorrect opinion.

Don't try to bully someone into accepting your view, just agree to disagree.

Jets offer to Ryan Fitzpatrick includes $12 million in first year, been on the table for months

The Jets' contract offer to Ryan Fitzpatrick is a three-year deal that includes $12 million in the first year, according to a source. The offer has been on the table for at least a couple of months.

Gang Green has been deadlocked in a contract negotiation for months with the man the team would like to be its starting quarterback. A large difference in value between the two sides has long been presumed to be the impotus for the drawn-out negotiations.

Though $12 million in the first year sounds substantial, it’s hard to get a complete picture of the full contract offer without knowing the money in the second and third deal or the structure of the guarantees, which aren’t known.

The Jets have long indicated their desire to re-sign Fitzpatrick, and the quarterback also said recently that he would like to return to the Jets. Todd Bowles has been clear: if Fitzpatrick returns he will do so as the starting quarterback.

Jets trio may have skipped practice in solidarity with Fitz

The Jets have said they would like to have Fitzpatrick back under contract by training camp.

Unquestionably working to the advantage of the Jets in the negotiation is that they almost certainly are offering Fitzpatrick the most money and the only opportunity where he can be the unquestioned starter.

Fitzpatrick has indicated that he wants to play this season, so there is virtually no threat of him retiring.

With Fitzpatrick unsigned, the Jets are operating in practice with Geno Smith as their starter, though everyone knows that the bearded veteran is the team's preferred choice. Eric Decker, who has been outspoken about his desire for the team to re-sign Fitzpatrick, is believed to have skipped the team's first OTAs this past week to send a message to management to sign the veteran QB. Brandon Marshall also missed the team's first OTAs.

Fitzpatrick, an 11-year journeyman QB, had the best year of his career last season when he led the Jets to 10 wins and threw a franchise record 31 touchdown passes. Those 10 victories brought the Jets to the verge of the playoffs, but the team coughed it up in Week 17 against Buffalo. Fitzpatrick threw three fourth-quarter interceptions in that loss to the Bills.

The Jets have just $3.575 million in cap room, per NFLPA records, but could create additional cap space by restructuring, for example, Decker and/or Buster Skrine's contracts.

Guess I was wrong about Mac low-balling fitz on purpose. The Amish QB must be looking for a huge pay day!
