"Eric Decker, Sheldon Richardson, Calvin Pryor absent at Jets OTAs" Headline from an article. Where's the Fatso Costello tweet that there's an all out mutiny happening at camp?
Mauldin and Jordan Jenkins are going to beast this season. Can't wait to see them line-up. Jenkins has taken all of the first team reps and looks to win the starting OLB job over Reilly [since Pace is gone]. Hopefully we get some news on Deon Simon in the near future also. Jets have the versatility to run any formation.
This is probably the upgrade I'm most excited for this season. If the linebacking group is re-energized with all this new speed and a year of evolution from Mauldin, then the defense will take on a new level of scary, which would be pretty sweet. Even better would be if Milliner steps up to the plate and finally lives up to his draft hype. That would be icing on the cake.
That's awesome news that Jenkins took all the 1st team reps yesterday. He and Mauldin could create a formidable, young OLB tandem for years to come. I'm really hoping we get something out of guys like Freddie Bishop and Deion Barnes too. We need the depth.
Call me a sun shiner. But IMO if this defense stays healthy we are going to kick major ass on that side of the ball. Will be better against the pass, much better at getting to the QB, and just as good against the run. If our offense can control the tempo and mitigate mistakes, we might have a contender. Fitz and or Geno will not need 30 point to win the game. I think the opposition might be underestimating the level of talent across this team.
My one huge fear is that Mauldin has concussion issues. It would be our luck to find a truly good dude with an inspiring story in the mid-rounds, for him to turn into a 3 down stud and his head shortens his career. Let's hope--and this sounds selfish--that his head issues have more to do with migraines than concussions. _
