At least if Luck stink it up the next game against the Titans you'll admit to me there is cause for concern in Luckyland?
Actually Phil Simms comments were about Luck in College. He made them in 2011 referring to the throws he was making in college weren't NFL throw.. In 2012 after seeing Luck as a pro he clearly thinks Luck is making NFL throws. You might want to review the tape of what Simms actually said about his arm as a pro. As usual you got it ass backwards. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1399844-phil-simms-ranks-the-rookie-quarterbacks-in-the-nfl
The problem that Andrew Luck faces is that he's not Peyton Manning good and likely never will be. Probably a small handful of NFL QB's in the next generation will be Peyton Manning good. So his most likely career path at this point is another 3 years with the Colts as a decent to good QB and then moving on because he didn't live up to the last guy. I think his best years will be with somebody else where he is just Andrew Luck, not the guy that ran Peyton Manning out of town.
The Colts don't part with him unless they become a bottom team for a couple of seasons. as long as he plays well and they win 9 plus a season, the team will stick with him. that's part of the price they pay for giving up the biggest franchise player in history for him -- they have to keep Luck to save face unless he or the team just tank.
we already have another member who plays this part. please pick another schtick that is currently available.
The contract. I don't think Irsay is going to pay the second contract unless Luck turns out to be a great QB. Right now he looks like he will be a good QB.
he may not get a monster contract, but I think the Colts would pay him handsomely as long as he doesn't regress to bottom levels and the team is winning, even if they aren't elite year in and out like under Manning.
Just a guess but I think Luck is going to look like a real star possibility to people elsewhere and like just a good QB to Irsay and company. If his market value is $18-20M but his perceived value in the organization is $12M it's going to create a very interesting dynamic. Remember that Irsay let Peyton Manning go because of a huge roster bonus that came due at the wrong time. He rolled the dice with the best prospect of the last few seasons. It was the right move at the time. Now the question is what does he do when he has to give Luck a $120M contract including $40M up front and he's still not sure Luck is worth the investment?
Don't think so. I think the guy is going to be great but in a different way. This is a much more athletic QB in the mold of John Elway. Now you can argue Elway wasn't as good as Payton Manning but there are very few teams who would run John Elway out of town just for following Payton Manning. Nobody ran Young out of SF for following Montana.
This is so wrong it almost defies response. He didn't let him go because ofroster bonus and the best prospect in a long time. He Sucked for Luck. He tanked the season. For the next Peyton. If there was no Luck, The bonus gets restructured and Peyton is there for 4 more years. Geezus. He is going to sign Luck for the next 12 years, going to be the biggest contract in football history. _
the one you should be shitting on is the OC. and the dudes best receiver is Ty hilton. literally, nobody is open. This thread is a steaming pile of garbage.
Steve Young was one of the best QB's for the entire time though. Do you really see Andrew Luck being Steve Young good at this point? I think the comparison to Elway is not a great one, because of the difference in the eras, but I do see your point there. The main thrust of my argument about Luck's chances with the Colts is that he's not likely to be as good as we're projecting him to be right now. He's more likely to be a solid starting QB than a superstar. I think that's going to impact his value to the Colts more than his perceived value outside the organization. The grass is always greener. The other thing that makes me really wonder about him is the completion percentage. He's thrown 938 passes now for 55.1%. That's not a star caliber number even for a young QB in today's NFL. His YPA is only 7 yards per attempt. That's not a number that suggests his low completion percentage is the result of taking a lot of shots down the field.
Steve Young sucked his first two years in the league. Like Luck he got drafted to a crappy team. Young didn't show anything like what he turned into until year 7 when he finally got a chance to get some serious attempts. He blew chunks in his starts for Tampa Bay as a rookie and in his second year. I don't remember his great play in the USFL? Luck is at 58.8% right now after last night.
After 25 starts in the NFL he has a 55.7% completion percentage. That's not a number that jibes with great QB. He plays in a dome on turf. Completion percentages go up in that kind of controlled environment.
how did Irsay make the team play poorly? are you claiming Caldwell was willing to suck and lose his job, and maybe risk never getting another head coaching experience, just so Irsay could get a QB? a QB Caldwell wouldn't be around to coach? what is Caldwell's motivation? what was the player's motivation to play poorly and risk their jobs? or are they all robots under control of Irsay? the team was bad because it lost Manning and was lost without him. it is simply dumb luck it happened when Luck was coming out. Irsay was the benefactor of Manning's injury, not the mastermind of a plan. as a result he was able to avoid the roster bonus.
I think the people proclaiming that he's already top 5 or even top 10 are the ones who firmly had Luck's cack balls deep pre-draft. He looks like a young QB with potential, but that's about it. He's billed as this super-smart accurate passer but doesn't play that way. Inconsistent, inaccurate, wild, bad decisions, etc. It seems it's a given that he's going to correct it all and reach the apex, but I doubt that happens Not much different than Newton and Stafford IMO.
