Understandable and I agree. 12-0 is unacceptable for the Yankees. Anything with a 0 is unacceptable. I don't know what happened tonight. Hopefully Hughes can help the team bounce back against Bedard who is a good pitcher.
Oh well at least Seattle lost. I'd rater lose 12-0 than lose a heartbreaker, as long as wet the W tonigth and win the series everything will be ok.
Take the good with the bad, I guess. At least we didn't lose the game to them. The downside is that we didn't gain the game either. Today is going to be important. At least a few guys got some time off last night. Can't ask for more than Hughes today. Let's go Yanks!
That game had bad karma before it even started. I knew it was lost before Karstens threw his first pitch but I thought we would at least get more then 2 hits.
So, Karstens is responsible for each of our last two losses and clueless will no doubt be ready to use him again. Igawa would have been 10x better last night even if he pitched the same as he has all year. Maybe he thinks we already have a lock on the wildcard and division and a loss really doesn't matter anyway.
Maybe. I don't think Karstens is good, but I don't know that Igawa would be better, and I'm also not sure it was worth making a move to the 40-man just for one start. In the end, it was a throwaway game. The Yankees weren't going to win them all. You don't/can't think like that as a manager. There is no difference between methods used for winning the wild card and those used for winning the division. You just try to win ballgames. And seeing as how the Yanks are still down one in the loss column for the wild card, I doubt anyone thinks it's a lock. My guess is they just wanted to get through one game as simply as possible.
That's my point. We don't have any throw away games. And yes I blame Torre for the Karstens start. He had his choice of Karstens, Kennedy or Igawa. It was worth a roster move as Karstens doesn't belong up right now.
Kennedy isn't coming up this year is he? Not everyone is just MLB ready. We got lucky with Hughes and Chamberlain. Igawa is done in the majors with the Yankees. No, I would not have rather seen him last night. Especially since it would have screwed up another option to make it happen.
Igawa vs. Karstens? That's like asking whether you'd rather be kicked in the left or right nut. Kennedy would've been nice, but you need to be able to justify the move. Starting Kennedy's clock, getting him to New York just for one start before sending him back down... I'm not saying I don't want to see Kennedy pitch... I'm just saying I can understand why they didn't make the move. And while Torre has some say, roster moves are ultimately handled by the front office. I get your point about the Yankees not being able to afford to throw away games... but at the same time, you're not going to win all of them. The odds of Karstens keeping you in a game (say the Yanks actually hit the ball last night) vs. the odds of Igawa keeping you in a game vs. a rookie making his MLB debut keeping you in a game are all close enough that I understand the move (or lack thereof). It wasn't worth it, just for one game.
Kennedy had already been picked on Saturday to come up for last night's start. Torre said then that if Karstens wasn't used last weekend he would start him instead.
I'm not all that worried about options on Karstens or Brower. Neither will be on the team after this winter anyway. Kennedy will probably be on the team for good next year.
